The German government knows the value of keeping European tank production going to ensure those skills are not lost for when they are needed.

The "Leopard 3" will likely be nothing more then a series of trials prototypes going through several versions, spanning a decade. Mostly to keep the Germans and French (Remember they merged!) up to date with tanks.

Trying to figure out an ERA concept to degrade Long rod penetrators..Based on stuff that i read.

Image

hmm maybe i just re-inventing kontakt-5 :p But anyway..

So the main defeat mechanism for the ERA is by inducing yaw and force its failure by the moving plates, reducing penetration power and hopefully, break down the penetrator.

The "active layer" consist of two moving plates, the thinner one which will move forward and thicker rear plate which move backward. The difference in thickness is well, mainly for saving weight :3 or i think so. However they will move in their optimum velocity to disrupt the incoming long rod or jets.

The void inside the ERA cassette is mainly for disrupting shaped charge jet, and basically give room of movement to the plates so they could "catch" The penetrator and induce more failure to it.

Anyway i don't really know how to calculate required explosives.. Which is important to determine how fast the plate will move.

Oh anyway just like Kontakt-5.. "spent" ERA will not be destroyed.. but instead can still provide protection. The explosion is directed at forward direction of the ERA. Thus why i have that "Blast plate" which will blow open and "Blast nozzle" Which direct the explosive.

Would love to hear suggestions.. or perhaps spreadsheets :3

Fairly average 21st-century SPG incoming.

Image

Weight: 42 tonnes
Length: 7.77 meters hull only, 9.78 meters overall
Width: 3.2 meters
Height: 3.09 meters to top of cupola
Crew: 5 (driver, commander, gunner, and two loaders)
Armor: protected against 15mm fire and 152mm shell fragments
Top speed: 60 km/h (road)

Main armament: 152mm, 48-caliber gun-howitzer
Rate of fire: 2 rounds per minute (sustained bombardment), 6 rounds per minute (brief bombardment), 3 rounds in 12 seconds (rapid bombardment)
Maximum range: 28 km (standard HE), 39 km (base-bleed shells), 54 km (rocket-assisted projectiles)
Secondary armament: 7.62mm GPMG (cupola-mounted)

The "93-Gen" is a self-propelled 152mm gun-howitzer, intended as a successor to the earlier SBP-152 66-Gen. Like its predecessor, the 93-Gen is based on the Shagtong-Hu universal heavy chassis, though in this case it is the ShTH-B variant with an improved 700-kilowatt engine. The design process began in 1993 with a State requirement for a vehicle offering a longer-ranged and more accurate main armament, as well as better protection against counter-battery fire. The vehicle entered service in 2001, and has replaced the 66-Gen in most but not all units.

The main armament consists of a 48-caliber gun, capable of firing existing 152mm ammunition or specialized base-bleed and rocket-assisted projectiles. The longer gun, paired with a more advanced fire-control system, allow considerably greater accuracy than the preceding 66-Gen. This is supplemented by compatibility with 152mm laser-guided munitions, which can be used to minimize collateral damage in urban bombardment or engage enemy armor. In order to improve effectiveness in counter-battery bombardments, the 93-Gen is able to fire a burst of three rounds in 12 seconds. By adjusting the charge size and trajectory between shots, it can also ensure that all three shots land on target at approximately the same time. This also allows the 93-Gen to complete its firing missions more quickly, then relocate to a new position before the enemy can deliver counter-battery fire of their own.

can't find it, but a dtic article on ammunition poorly stored in Germany and using the the Gulf revealed that propellant pressures were low, and thus the ammunition would undershoot the target. Significant at long ranges.

Might depend on manufacture. Were these US made rounds? Or UK made ones?

The Ingwe is a fine missile.

Its pretty much like TOW.

Its only longer because its most likely with the entire prop measured as well.

1,000+mm of penetration isn't really a better than the top-down attack of TOW 2B.
