I think the Merkava is a very good looking tank. Perhaps a little bit rubenesque but she wears it well. :)

I also like her jewelry that she wears on her turret. These chain thingies with balls hanging on them. Very pretty.

And probably very useful as well.

It's one of my favorite vehicles of mine, so I would love it to have a purpose for as long as possible.

Direct-fire artillery piece.
Like a heavy Gvozdika (a 122mm howitzer thrown onto an extended MT-LB chassis).

Also anything that looks strange? Any ideas on things to add when it's been refined a bit?

I'm not entirely certain, but I think your hull looks a bit short on height.
Compare to the T-72:

The M829A3, either developed from or directly the result of the 140mm gun programme, has a projectile weight of 10kg. It uses a much fatter and longer KEP than the M829A1, yet the two have approximate projectile weights (A1 has 9kg projectile weight and 4.6kg penetrator weight). It can be assumed the M829A3 sabot is significantly lighter than that of the M829A1.

It's length and composition would be just a big of factors as caliber.

Lets say something like the M829A3. I am thinking somewhere along the lines of 15 kg. Or I am way off?
Edit: Ok seen it tanks :)

10kg total projectile weight, including sabot.
ATK doesn't list the weight of the penetrator itself, unlike for the M829A1 - which featured a sabot weighing almost as much as its own penetrator (4.4kg versus 4.6kg penetrator).

In the 20 or so years between them, novel and lightweight sabot designs have been thrown about. Sabot mass is probably much closer to, if not below, the 2kg mark these days.

I was thinking something of the sort. I saw footage of the Syrian Army using it as such and I fell in love with the idea.

Gvozdikas were used in the role of direct-fire artillery (counterbattery against AT guns, light fortifications etc) since before the 1980s in Soviet service.

Then that shall be it's purpose.

Only worry now is if the Sturer Emil that it essentially is would be at all usable decades after WWII.

Wait 2kg for a 120mm gun or 2kg for a 140mm gun? I mean taking into account the bore diameter and possibly higher pressures a 140mm sabot has to weigh more than 2 kg.

The M829A2 sabot reduced the mass over the M829A1 aluminium by about 30%, the A3 sabot reduced the weight by an additional 35%.
A two-thirds reduction of a 4.4kg sabot would correspond to a 1.5kg sabot for a 120mm gun projectile.

More novel designs almost certainly exist.

I see. Like some IFV's and APC's. Your vehicle looks rather heavy but I don't know if that lay out could work. My tracked vehicles have engines that take a lot more relative room but I haven't designed any lightweight tracked vehicles since I have been rebooting my stuff.

Well the Sturer Emil's engine is in the back if I remember correctly, so I couldn't keep it there with the turret.

Yes. I understand. Well, I am no expert on this and nobody else has commented on it so I think you got away with it.

It is a nice looking vehicle but you have made other designs I am a bigger fan of.

But you are trying new things and you have your own style and I really like that about your designs. They look realistic enough but not like any other AFV of the same type. ;)

I wouldn't call it new. It's four months old and I haven't written-up a vehicle since. I really need to get this retcon done and sort shit out.

For looks, it's only competitor for me is my NotMBT-70, but my retcon and recent, scaled MBT design may force me to abandon it.

With trying new things I didn't mean that the vehicle is new but that you are creative with making your designs. They have a unique quality and are not like everybody else's.
