(we have a very literal definition of life imprisonment, it means for the entirety of that person's life and since we are effectively immortal that can be an extremely long time. Depending on who they've betrayed us to and how, it can range from something as small as a fine, to prison time, and up to permanent incarceration and death. Because of high desertion rates among our sister military organizations in Vera and Former Holy Geneva, and the political situations in both these regions we must treat traitors differently according to their circumstance.

Civilian traitors to the state are to be summarily executed.

Members of the Awesome Army are mostly foreign nationals but surrender their right to diplomatic assistance when they sign up. If convicted of treason, execution or life sentences are meted out. life sentence is the minimum sentence.

Members of the Veran Army may be summarily executed or brought to court martial on the discretion of their superior officer. Minimum sentence is only 5 years however.

Members of the (Former) Holy Geneva Security Forces and HUG (Intelligence) technically operate under a different government which has set much less strict punishments and thus while execution is legal (only after court martial) sentences typically stick to the minimum 6 months. Keep in mind however that desertion and dereliction of duty usually also fall under treason in Former Holy Geneva. And if those cases resulted in the death penalty more than not then there would be roughly four hundred thousand less people in the HGSF.

Members of Police, Gendarme and Night Watch are tried as civilians. IQU (Intelligence) and Village Guard can only be tried within their own organizations or directly by the Committee of Public Safety due to a quirk in the law and some dubious manoeuvring of their leaders.
