Physical Removal, be it deportation, formal execution, or free helicopter rides.

How does your nation deal with traitors?

Treason itself isn't a crime, because it's victimless, so no state has any penalty to it, but most traitors are people who are involved in stuff like attacks and assassination of civilians and they are judged for that, not for being traitors to the nation. After they are judged, they are physically removed.

We either put them in prison or in extremely serious cases we make them watch eastenders for ages and they end up killing themselves.

It would depend on the party and the nature of the treasonous act. Individuals who attempt to subvert the rules of the confederacy are to be expelled and forbidden from re-entering. Should said treason result in significant compromise to our security and well-being, the traitor will be executed. Townships or city-states which betray the confederacy are to be expelled and regarded as a hostile foreign entity.

How in the heck did I betray my own nation? Well, if there is another myself that was going crazy, perhaps I will just gave her a stern warning, or make her disappear.

It depends on the seriousness and nature of treason. Punishment ranges from reeducation to a lifetime of slavery in the mines up to execution. Either way, a lot of torture will be involved.

As the death penalty is abolished and cruel and unusual punishments are abhorred and banned, traitors are simply given long prison sentences, sometimes for life.

Because of a loophole in the WLO constitution, exile is technically legal, despite the ban on capital punishment and the lack of prisons. Those guilty of treason are exiled to remote territories with only basic survival equipment. We let the wilds handle the rest.

To commit a crime that can be defined as borderline treason (E.g: The crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to kill or overthrow the sovereign or government.) is deemed a federal offence worthy of capital punishment if convicted. Whence upon being found guilty, they are subjected to approved capital punishment methods.

With that being said, whether such an execution is carried out under the media's scrutiny, is relative to the popularity of said crime committed. Treasonous individuals are generally put down with the notion being: "The betrayal of the state is to betray your own right to live."

From McGarry M. R. and Hawthorne C. (2017) The hangman in Strathy; no longer a life long occupation, New Glasgow
Since the Restoration and the downfall of socialism, the government of the United Kingdom has become, much to the distaste of the professional executioner, far less paranoid. This is, party due to the fact that it's no longer considered high treason to mock the government, criticise policy or found your own political party. With this relaxing of the laws around politics came the discussion in 2004 on the matter of treason via Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (2004) and the National Security Act (2004) which came to the forefront of political discussion shortly after the Restoration of 2003.

Previously, under laws of the former United Strathan Socialist States, treason had carried a very broad and varied definition; essentially allowing the courts to rule at will whether something could be constituted as treason. The definitions were vague at best, but effectively boiled down to anything that could be seen to destabilise the government or threaten national security carried out by a Strathan citizen. For most cases, the punishment was death; by hanging for civilians and by firing squad for members of the military. The vague rulings had meant many judges were able to simply have people hanged for crimes such as protesting, where as the attempted assassination of Socialist Party Secretary Harry Gow in 1997 was punished simply by twenty five years behind bars.

By the time the new government was installed in 2003, there were still over four hundred people waiting to be hanged for "treason". As such, the new Labour government opened the debate on what would constitute treason. Within the National Security Act (2004), referencing the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (2004), a set of criteria for treason were laid down. Key among these were that, to constitute treason, an offence must include; an attempt on the life of the reigning monarch or their heirs, an attempt to subvert the parliamentary democracy of the United Kingdom, aiding a foreign power in breaching national security, aiding a foreign power in committing an act of war against the United Kingdom, or instigating or helping to instigate armed rebellion against the lawful government of the United Kingdom (Strathan Government, 2004).

As far as punishment for treason goes now, the sentences are generally less severe and more standardised. Acts such as a successful attempt on the life of the reigning monarch or leading armed rebellion still carry the sentence of "being hanged by the neck until dead" (Strathan Government, 2004). However, other sentences may simply go as far as life imprisonment. Penalties for serving members of the armed forces tend to be more severe, with shooting still being a viable option for most of the above listed treasonous offences.

It should be stated, that since 2005, nobody has actually been charged with treason.

Treason, defined as succesfully violent (e.g. resulting in multiple deaths) hostile actions against the monarchy and government, or any domestic act of terror, is usually punished by revocation of personhood.
Whatever happens afterwards is up to whatever entity is granted rights to the nonperson.

It is simple. Treason usually results in being sentenced to death by firing squad. The NAFCSS (North American Federation's Committee of State Security) might make you disappear randomly and glass your property, killing all of your close relatives and/or friends/intimate relationships after an interrogation.

The CSS (Committee of State Security) is mostly a Cultlike Fanatical Theocratic group that operates completely outside the bounds of even the Federation's Government. The Supreme court, and President often have no power over the Agency despite being the main source of their funds. Due to this, the CSS is not bound to follow any particular law even when executing a potential Terrorist or Traitor. That's right, the CSS can make you disappear for a mere accusation, they don't need much evidence and they don't need to take you to court. The CSS handles most of the executions in the NAF, but they are mostly done on the basis of ideological, and religious issues. The FBI, and CIA work together to control and monitor other demographics such as race, and creed (immigrants and such). But the FBI and CIA report to the CSS as if they were mere puppet agencies, if the CSS makes a decision, that decision is final.

TL;DR > Most Traitors are simply shot. But some are hanged. All Traitors receive capital punishment.

Any traitors are questioned rigidly. We promise to spare their lives if they give us any valuable information about our enemies. Then we kill them regardless via firing squad.

First and foremost, any person convicted of treason is placed on a list, and is banned from any sensitive government jobs (police, information, King's security, etc).

After that, the treason is assessed, looking at the damage caused, and the damage that the offender intended to cause. For a minor offense, such as leaking classified documents, the sentence is usually a light (several months) sentence in a rehabilitation center, followed by heavy community service. For something more major, like trying to overthrow the government, a long sentence in a rehabilitation center is issued. Additional charges, like terrorism, are sometimes also filed. Someone who tried to kill the King, or violently overthrow the government, would probably get 20 years in a rehabilitation center, the most severe sentence available for any offense by law.

Treason has a narrow definition under San Prosperan law:
  • Coordinating or collaborating with a foreign state or syndicate in war or occupation against the Republic
  • Persuading a foreign state or syndicate to engage in war or occupation against the Republic
For these very specific and serious crimes, no penalty is acceptable but death.

Those who confess their treason are sent to the Syndicate Laborious Repatriation Facilities until such time as their loyalty has been reassured, should such a time exist.

Those who defend their treason with perjuries are shot.
