Have the soldier get a visor in which a GPS map grid coordinate is seen (The soldier's position). Tell him that that is where he needs to call in the mortar strike if he's overrun. (Although your infantry may have a problem with twelve digits of map grid information, which could be gotten around by embedding it in the video, along with a compass, rangefinder, cant and tilt angles, and a crosshair.)

I present my latest fifteen minute PMG abomination.
The M74M rifle.
Image
It fires the 5.56 NATO round, using a combination of AR and AK principles. A DI gas tube from the AR front sight is moved into the AK gas piston, which is mounted to the AR bolt carrier, actuating it, and letting it recoil into a standard AR buffer tube. Strangely enough, this... thing might actually work.

If anyone wants the gun to screw around with, tacticool a bit or something, here it is.

Opinions? I think I'm about done with the lineart phase except for the bolt and safety plus minor details.

I reiterate my request for an upper handguard to cover the gas tube.

Beautiful either way though.

AK Africa Edition, includes 'tactical' Red Ribbon for increased accuracy, patriotic beads for increased national pride and traditional crocodile charm for deadlier injuries. And broken spike bayonet for better stabbiness.

Mine actually uses the AK gas piston driven by a gas tube connected to the AR front sight. That's a nearly straight DI gun with an AK forward handguard slipped over the barrel. Other than the orientation of the stock, of course.

Added an Rk 95 inspired muzzle device.

Ref. covered gas tube: Good point, but I always personally liked the aesthetics of an uncovered tube á la AMD-65.

More fragile, slightly easier to burn your hands on, et cetera. Just leave the forward part exposed or someting

I reiterate my point of preferring the aesthetics. Nobody is going to use this weapon IRL and thus nobody is going to burn their hands. I do take functionality into account with my designs but I also try to make something I'm happy with myself.

The lack of a top handguard doesn't make the gas tube more fragile. Plenty of weapons don't have one.

Eh, guess it's fair. Same reason I went with a steel-and-wood rifle using an aluminum-and-steel casket magazine.

Might want to elongate the magazine release tab by a couple millimeters.

I've never had an issue with bare gas tubes on AKs, and I'm not sure how steel is more fragile than a wooden or polymer handguard.

If I make an LSW/AR variant I'll probably add a perforated steel heat shield.

Basic, unshaded, undetailed colourway. Reckon it looks OK? Not too dark? I've considered going for green furniture instead of black.

Metal color looks good, but you might make the furniture either a shade lighter or a shade darker. For example, my AK-103 clone uses a RUS Milspec. finish, paint-over-parkerization. The paint on the metal is darker than the polymer furniture, albeit not by much. My Romanian-made WASR-10/63 is just parkerized, though, and black furniture on it is darker than the steel.

Also, slight suggestions that mostly have to do with my personal preferences: might want to "curve" the buttplate just a smidge and maybe add a pistol grip reinforcement plate. There are some other small details I plan on mentioning, but I'm just assuming right now you haven't gotten there yet.

Assault rifles didn't choose the Khyber Pass life, the Khyber Pass life chose them.

It's an abortion conglomoration of the M16 series ('A1 lower; no idea what upper) and a Type-56 AK, obviously, but the buttstock is definitely from an SKS. Puzikas and I discussed this on IRC that one night we were talking about things like this: you left before I could show it to you, I think. I believe we came to the conclusion of the stock being off of a Russian SKS.

Damnit, thought you were a Marine - don't know why...

Must've been because of your no caps, no punctuation, incorrect spelling style of writing posts.

No intent to offend any Marines (former or current), relations, or fanboys thereof.

Already had the polymer slightly toned down but it was barely noticeable, fixed that now. Curved the buttplate a little bit and added a reinforcement plate. Aside from bolt carrier and safety lever, I still need to add stock rivets or whatever they're called and the little part on the mag release housing that I assume prevents the safety from overrotating.
