The only reason there is a national currency is because it is required by the Writ of Governance. The original purpose was to unify several kingdoms and principalities under one currency instead of many. Now, it helps add a level of standardization. I know that if I have my money in shiblon, (the Nullarnish currency,) all or most businesses within the nation will accept my money. This is a good thing. Other national currencies, or bank specific currencies are legal. Even individuals can print their own currencies. But there is no guarantee anyone will accept them. Most, if not all, individuals and businesses accept Nullarnish shiblon, so it allows for smoother and easier transactions.
