its what navyweaps said, so take that as you will-

I'm looking for other sources, and so far I'm getting 75km repeated, although this could be a case of one site taking it info from another and it spreading out like that.

(So far I've looked at the fallowing)

Just did a bit of quick research into the shell sizes/power of each shell and surprisingly the 130mm option is allot meatier then the 203 if my sources are to be believed. The 130mm gun fires a shell that weights 190 pounds total and has a 73.6 pound HE projectile, while the 203 has an HE-FRAG (only HE shell I can get reliable data on) shell that weights around 240 pounds with a 39 pound HE-FRAG projectile

Seems it is based off the M-46 artillery gun, which has a range more around 20-30km.

It's a naval gun, it's either got a ludicrously heavy charge or base-bleed/RAP munitions.
The 130mm land artillery guns, had ranges of 27km without RAP and 34km with.

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussi ... _ak130.htm
Navweaps.com here, though, agrees with the M-46's range figures, a maximum possible range of twenty-something kilometres (23).

Had the feeling

the 75km figure could be for some sort of rocket assisted round but that seems a bit far even for that

Which seems to mean that the radar or FCS or whatever has a 72 km range

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

Speaking of big guns, so what is the point of the 2S4? I see something that's too big to hide and not long-ranged enough long-ranged enough to stay out of reach.

The 2S4 is easily small enough to hide it where ever you want to. The whole thing is no larger than a tank. And it's useful for when you really need to blow something up that 155mm just won't do.

To drop fucking huge shells on unsuspecting hostile forces.

Mainly for nuclear and chemical shells I would think-

The Tyulpan is for when something needs the absolute shit blowing out of it, or for when high-altitude fire, say to clear terrain obstacles, is required.
It can also be used to deliver chemical and nuclear shells quite well.

There is just something to be said about having close in atomic weapon support.

Hopefully we can leave the Padbashing till later, currently I have the need to mount giant guns on T-55 chassis and while my momentary ineptitude was a setback, I must press onward

Has the 180mm S-23 ever produced any good results? I've looked around for anything talking about its combat performance and I haven't found anything although given the period it was adopted and a number of references saying an example was captured in the middle east I have to assume it's seen combat-
