Plus I live in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania no one is going to target where I live and I could avoid most of the radiation with a short drive.

If you refer back to the fallout map, it kind of obscures Pennsylvania under a 300-1050 rad plume :P

As I said, I'm driving away in case of nuclear war. Its why I actually do keep a bug out bag stuffed with all kinds of useful things in my apartment. I drive south as fast as possible and maybe I survive. I will have survived the initial exchange with is more than most people will probably be able to say, and I won't be in a big city which makes escape easier.

EDIT: Looking back, yep I could make it to a family farm that is both outside of target areas and outside the radiation. Its an 8 hour drive but whatever.

Not sure exactly where you live, but you have to figure best case in this scenario you're going to have 30 min to G.O.O.D before the flash. Not sure if that's going to be enough time for you or not to clear the incoming radiation bath.

As I said I'm outside of the initial target zones, and the nearest attacks look like they would be airburst, so radiation wouldn't be to bad.

The big bad of radiation comes from the ground burst attacks in the fly over states. I don't think that radiation would be hitting me within the first couple of hours at the very least. Enough time to make it to a safer place, maybe.

Padnak wrote:I'm looking around for new strike/bomber aircraft and I've got a couple candidates that I'd like some thoughts on:

Su-34?
Xian JH-7?

Padnak has very close relations with both China and Russia so acquisition wouldn't be the problem, I'm just wondering what people think of the two aircraft and which would be better?

I'm looking for a long range strike aircraft capable of carrying a wide range of weapons, including AShMs
(If someone says F-111C, I'll smash your teeth in)

If you're stuck in the Eastern Block, then I suggest going with the JH-7 if you can't keep Su-24 Fencers in service via upgrades. The Su-34 isn't likely to be widely exported before 2020, so it doesn't make sense that you could get your hands on a force of them before that date at the earliest.

Alright, let's try this then.
...more reliable, more manueverability, faster, and deadlier than the F22,... higher quality thrust vectoring... the F37 also has a highly advanced and very high power radar on board... giving extended range allowing for even higher efficiency in combat.

How is it more reliable, more manoeuverable, faster and deadlier?
How is the thrust vectoring nozzle of higher quality?
How is the radar highly advanced and very high powered?
How is it more efficient than an F-22?

Padnak, according to my sources JH-7's JL-10A set is a tad behind the F-16's APG-66 non-AESA radars. Meanwhile you can install Irbis-E on the Su-34 since it's pretty much all the same Flanker body.

I also find that storefront's "unique products" read like an RT article.

As for the JH-7s radar, it's a strike aircraft. It doesn't need an AESA radar optimized for BVR when all it needs to do is follow the terrain and drop bombs on bridges.
The necessity of a navy, in the restricted sense of the word, springs, therefore, from the existence of a peaceful shipping, and disappears with it, except in the case of a nation which has aggressive tendencies, and keeps up a navy merely as a branch of the military establishment. 1

Seven quid for a good-sized pizza with two toppings is quite a bit when I don't have to pay for any of mother dearest's delightful cooking.

I love how me complaining about not having money has turned into a discussion about food options and the availability of pizza. On the military realism thread. Honestly home made pizza is good, just annoying to make it.

It just does not happen. The Purpelian army only serves traditional Purpelian dishes.

Don't eat it all at once! I do empathize, though. The only pizza place within convenient walking distance is ridiculous. I'm a simple man of simple tastes - I don't want cajun shrimp on my pizza. But if I drive somewhere then people won't get to see me walking around with a jaunty cap and society as a whole suffers.

Now, watch as I steer this effortlessly back onto topic. I hope a nuclear war wipes out all gourmet pizza parlors. Would it???

In Romic forces are allowed to purchase pizza when they are on leave or off duty. When in combat it's scarily found. It's viewed as a treat when the Higher Ups want a moral boost they allow flight of certain dishes (including pizza) to the troops

Sounds nice, the Luthorian military doesn't get any treats, you can't even drink on bases in Luthoria, joining the Luthorian Imperial Military is akin to joining a monastic order. No booze, no women, no drugs (even though even hard drugs are legal here), and no good food.

I'm working on a small helicopter for limited reconissance/light attack missions (hypothetically working alongside the low-RCS modified UH-60 Blackhawks).
Any thoughts on the effectiveness/plausibility of its stats so far?

RH-933S Low-RCS Scout/Light Attack Helicopter

Crew: 2
Length: 14m (46ft)
Rotors: 4-bladed main rotor, 8-bladed in-tail rotor
Cruise Speed: 152 knots (155mph/250km/h)
Combat Radius: 200km
Armament:
RKD-6 20mm autocannon (500rpm w/350 rounds)
x6 70mm rocket tubes (Intended for APKWS, but regular Hydra rockets can be used too)
x2 Hard points for either AGM-176 Griffon or AIM-92 Stinger

A scouting helicopter, for all the ragging we do on it, could certainly find great use for a significant RCS reduction. Arguably, even attack helicopters could be. Cover through treetops are, radar-directed gunnery is probably still a significant threat to them.
