I'd agree with Garshne, but it didn't happen to West Berlin, try as the Soviets did. Depends if the city-state's allies have the air power to run a supplies operation, and neither you nor them want to fight over them doing that.

Well in typical NS fashion they are just pissing me off by existing. But we both share a culture and history, so I don't want to fight him.

International trade embargo. Stranglehood on goods. No freedom of movement. Etc.

And then offer a wonderful treaty and essentially vassalise the city-state.

You could send agents to infiltrate the city-state and stir up dissent - that combined with woes brought about by the taxes/tariffs/restrictions on trade and travel already suggested by others would sure be very effective.

If all else fails you could have pro-(insert your nation here) 'self defense militias' rise to the occasion I guess.
Totally not a sarcastic reference to current events. :P

Regi, did I get anything wrong in my summary of things for Icebox above?

You've made a pair of quite massive errors actually. The first being that Bukharabia will join the war on my side due to multiple military alliances and shared history.

The majority of my Navy is actually based in ports outside of the Sapphire Sea precisely to avoid being bottled up. The balance of my navy is based in the Southern Ocean, but I retain a considerable quantity of naval assets for locking down the western Sapphire Sea in combination with massive air power. That includes all of my fleet carriers and about half my amphibious helicopter carriers (which can act as light STOVL carriers). My goal is to lock down the Gulf and western Sapphire Sea to prevent hostile naval and amphibious landing forces from approaching while providing fire support to my ground forces if Sarudin or Nirvash joins the war against me. My ability to actually attack your territory is limited severely, hence why I have a couple submarines loaded to the gills with long-range, stealthy, subsonic, precision-guided missiles.

Anastasiy also has a heavy-duty 4km runway, so it can take fully loaded strategic bombers and commercial airliners as-is. It's also extremely defensible due to how rugged it is, so I figure I might as well make it incredibly costly for anyone who tries to storm it and put a pair of sacrificial Naval Infantry divisions there to hold it. I expect to loose it eventually due to there being no way to feasibly resupply or relieve the forces there until after I've won or lost the war, but on the other hand it denies the use of the Canal to my enemies so long as the garrison has an offensive strike capacity. That prevents a large portion of the naval forces I'd otherwise have to deal with from sailing around the south-eastern portion of the continent and getting into the Gulf where they have space to maneuver. If they go out the north passage, then they've looking at a 6,500+ nautical mile voyage before they can engage me. I'll know they're coming long before they can get to me, which means I can engage them at standoff range.
The necessity of a navy, in the restricted sense of the word, springs, therefore, from the existence of a peaceful shipping, and disappears with it, except in the case of a nation which has aggressive tendencies, and keeps up a navy merely as a branch of the military establishment. 1

Under my current canon, the Soodean Imperium spent the 1960s occupied by foreign powers, so I can't meddle in your own colonial wars. Also, OOCly I'm racing to reorganize my Marine Infantry from Divisions into Brigades in time for a landing in a separate RP, so I haven't much time to spare.

Out of curiosity, though, where in Hemithea are you? I didn't see Zeinbrad on the regional map.

Gentlemen, I am here. My buddy Mozria finally dragged me over here to stamp out my creativity learn something new about modern warfare. So, hello. Now, for my question.

In my home territory, I have Mozrian guard troops surrounded on all four sides. He is based on the shore, in an oil-rich region, with many trees. I am currently moving my MBT Diplomat Heavy Tanks and Marksman Light Tanks alongside my lighter infantry to neutralize his Southeastern defense forces. There are ~30,000 men of my own in the area and about one-third of that number of Mozrian troops within the base, with a few hundred civilians. His naval forces are about 100 or so miles out to sea, tangling with my HD fighters. I'm planning to send an elite team of paratroopers deep within the confines of the base via HAHO to cut power to all wired defense systems that depend on the grid. Is this plan feasible?

I don't really recall mentioning Bukh, so not entirely certain how that's an error.

As for naval power, there's going to be a very long, drawn out battle in the western sea. I'm churning out ships by the dozen from those shipyards.

One day I might work out how.

So here's the thing, I see all this discussion about warfare and equipment and doctrine, which is all cool, don't get me wrong, but hardly ever do I see any actual warfare. It seems like an immense amount of work goes into making all this stuff ready for RP but its never used.

When deploying anything by para-drop, the key is to land it a safe distance from enemy installations; you'll need to drop them in a place where they won't be noticed, and where they'll have time to regroup and gather separately-dropped equipment before heading for their objective. While your troops are falling, they'll be drifting apart, and highly vulnerable to detection and enemy fire. Dropping them right on top of the enemy base will be tantamount to suicide; even if they make it to the ground alive they'll be scattered randomly around a large enemy encampment, surrounded by enemy soldiers who have probably seen where they landed.

That being said, there may be other, more secretive ways to insert saboteurs into their base. None that guarantee success, but several that at least offer a smaller chance of being shot to swiss cheese.

Edit: Given your situation, of course, there are much easier ways to take them out. The simplest would be to pummel the base with artillery, rocket fire, and cruse missiles, but if you're worried about inflicting civilian casualties that's a risky option. Alternatively, you could cut off their supplies and wait for them to surrender (given that they're already surrounded and outnumbered by a sizeable margin). Elite special forces operator teams may be the coolest option, and the most prominent in popular culture, but they're not always the most tactically useful.

Okay, Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Vark equipment and how their organized.

Though the Royal Guard is seen as a ceremonial force by most people, it is actually a combat formation, not just meant for marching well.

Vark is made up of five provinces, each province get's it own regiment dedicated to operations in that province, each regiment is about 3,400 strong.

The Royal Guard is mostly infantry, with only about 230 Panzer 61's and 140 Panzer 68's in service, Vark does have the ability to produce more, but they mostly export them to other nations.

The Royal Air Force, is also equally small, about 67 combat aircraft, I do not know what would make a good one for them to use.

The Vark navy is virtually non existent.

I lost what I was originally writing...so I just decided to quickly sum it up.

Thoughts?

So I'm currently in a war with someone. In a specific city, they've got the majority of their troops hunkering down in underground storage complexes to survive my bombing raids. Their plan is to draw me into urban combat when I step into the city and they can scurry from their locations.

Is there anyway I can detect the presence of underground storage facilities without setting troops there? Like, with a satellite or something?

Step into the city... and continue bombing it. It's not like MT air support is so inaccurate that a JDAM launched at the Boleyn Ground is going to hit Stamford bridge.

Anything with lots of people hiding underground is going to produce a lot of heat or require a lot of electricity. So yes, a massive complex of bunkers would show up quite pronounced on advanced thermal systems.

Go somewhere else. Use a tunnel bore with machine guns...

If you are feeling mean don't come in at all. If you know there are enemy forces in the city and you have the means to just besiege them and starve them out. It's not like the kind of assets they could reasonably hide inside a city AND survive a bombing are going to be coming out to get you.

Also, use gas.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

If the enemy troops are hoarding the storage and not letting civilians in, the civilians will probably all defect or variously surrender to you, and maybe even tell you where the storage facilities are.
