Overhauling my little tankette design. Modern tech, changed a few things from my last idea. A little longer than before, 3.75m vs 3.55, gave the bottom of the hull a bit of a V shape. Squared off the back of the hull, at the top for a bit more interior room. Modeled the engine block engine block off of dimensions for a Commer TS3, Used close dimensions in size and weight for the alternator, and the ring traction motors, to actual production equipment.

Widened the track allowance to 400mm, cause low ground pressure. Shaved a bit of armour here and there. Still intending to use the turret from before (20mm semi-auto) for now, as like, a low cost, air-portable recon vehicle, akin to the Wiesel 1 MK20, but faster less ground pressure, better protection. Due to previous critique, it currently has an internal 317.1L or 85.6Gal fuel tank, which should give it around 544 Km or 338 mile operating range. Thinking about throwing an optional external tank on the back. Trying to determine it I can fit a useable battery pack into this damned hull or not. I think I have room at the back, maybe.

Have plans to drop the commander into the hull, and mount a low intrusion turret armed with a Bushmaster III 50mm and an MG For a FV101 potential replacement.
Also thinking of an stretched hull with a slightly taller superstructure to turn into an APC, Mortar carrier, SRAD and an ATGM launcher, akin to the FV102 Striker, but with Spike ER instead of Swingfire.

Image

Image
Driver may look cramped, but he has a hell of a lot more room than the driver does in one of the tanks that inspired this; the FV101. Added a lot of bracing, the bracing on the hull-sides will also help support the suspension modules, lending extra strength to that critical area.

Image
Currently looking at 14 spare magazines for the 20mm cannon in the hull, in addition to the 6 ready in the turret, and 1 in use. Could possibly stick another six magazines in the turret where I had planned stowage for a 200 round box of 7.62, since there's 1600 rounds of 7.62 in the hull. This would bring the 20mm complement up to 270. This is using a 1015mm turret ring, Could probably fit a proper 20mm autocannon into it though, just running with what I had already designed. Removing the magazines as a factor, could probably fit 350-400 rounds into the space allotted. If I turn the battery pack into a option, and use the rear area as pure cargo space, a lot more ammunition could be stowed.

Am I going overboard?

It's wonderfully rendered, to the point I'm hesitant to ask.
How did you allocate space to the driver? Here's an ergonomics sheet for people operating machinery in confined conditions, such as mining.
http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/mining/content ... ayout.html
What sort of protection is he offered?

Please, ask and point out flaws. Only way I can improve.

How did I allocate space for the driver? Used the mannequin and guessed.

Image

81.4 mm beneath his lowest point, add in chair, and not much left.
51mm between his head and the ceiling. To be fair, I'm be seriously contemplating using a remote viewing system for the driver (Oculus Rift...in a helmet), so that he could be strapped in right to the chair, akin to an F1 driver. Which.....would be handy when this thing is speculated to hit 60 - 70mph. (Ridiculous amount of power in a tiny little tank. Cause It is feasible.) Course, trade off for that is drastically slowed egress in an emergency. Footroom is about 120+ mm to the front, lower glacis. 30mm to the upper glacis, but just adjust his position a bit and he had a lot of upward foot movement.

And by protection, are you meaning the armor, or...something else?

I do not know how and why this is relevant but it is. I just learned that hamsters are cannibals.

How can we militarize that?

Your confusing we can't with we shouldn't

we could air drop thousands of hamsters onto an enemy population with the aim of wiping out their hamster population

not sure what that would accomplish, but it could still be done

When the enemy watches as their native hamsters are decimated by hordes of glorious Padnaki death hamsters it will obviously ruin their morale and affect the war effort...

Does it sound reasonable for an Ekranoplan around the same size as the Lun-class to be able to potentially carry up to two 60-70 ton tanks? I'm working on such a craft for amphibious landings.

The difficulty is that the inside of the Lun was subdivided into ten waterproof compartments. This suggests that the individual compartments were likely unable to fit tanks.

Ah. Assume an Ekranoplan with a single large cargo hold in its interior and a nose that can open, then. It isn't the Lun-class, but it will probably be similar while being somewhere between it and the Caspian Sea Monster size-wise.

The empty weight of the Lun is listed as 243 tons, max loaded weight is 380 tons.

I imagine fitting 140 tons of tank might be possible... without any kind of fuel in the aircraft.

Seems reasonable as an idea to shove 90 tons of tanks and 50 tons of fuel into it.
