Yes, we do have cumpulsory military service in the form of the Wehrdienst whereby once you become a citizen, you are expected to either be conscripted into the Kaiserliche Reichswehr or apply for Zivildienst, or civil service, if you are a conscientious objector. Of course, this only applies to males, female military service is voluntary-only.

Everybody between the ages of 18 and 25 must do one year of military service. If you are overweight you will get re-drafted until you lose the extra weight.

From the age of 16 to 90 all males have to serve in the military or work in a factory.

Yes, but only sort of. There is a section of public education between the ages of 17 and 19 in which everyone is required to do a couple of years of military training. This training is run by the military, however actually fighting in the army is NOT required. All citizens may be considered under passive military service in times of war, if it seen as necessary.

The military education is seen as a core and very integrated element of Dermastinan society, in which teamwork, physical fitness and general organisational skills and preparedness are trained. Also, it is the time during which Pairs are joined together, and a lot of time is spent on helping them develop their respective skills, and their relationship with one another. Extensive trust and bonding exercises are done to help facilitate this, and to prepare them for wider society as a Pair.

So while Military education is compulsory, actual service is not.

As of 2020, military service is extremely popular. Because of this, military service is no longer compulsory.

Conscription was phased out a long time ago when we decided it was a better idea to focus on a small but well trained and well equipped military than a mass of poorly motivated conscripts.

The Republic does not have compulsory military service. Though there is a draft in times of crisis, one of the founding principles of the Republic was the ability of a citizen to choose his or her career, which meant all military servicemen and women have to be volunteers.

Under the previous regimes, military service was compulsory. This was one of the contributing factors to unrest and eventually revolution which toppled the Neo-Torollum Regime, resulting in the birth of the Republic.

Yes, as once one turns 18 and succeeds in applying for full citizenship, he/she is drafted into the military though there is some wiggle room for conscientious objectors who can either just serve as medics and staff and logistic personnel or apply for civil service instead.

Does your nation have compulsory military service?
Costa Fiero has compulsory military or alternative public service for all citizens when they reach 18 years of age. Not all of them actually undergo military service as reporting for duty without being inducted constitutes service.

Compulsory service was abolished during time of peace in 1958; otherwise, mandatory service is between 19 and 21.

Sort of: In order to become a citizen (really no different from a civilian except that citizens are allowed to vote and hold public office), one must serve a term of Imperial Service, which covers a wide range of activities from soldiering down to rubbish collection. Citizens who have previously served in the Self Defense Forces (and to a lesser extent, the other Imperial Services) may be recalled to active service in times of national emergency, but no civilian can be forced to perform Imperial Service, and a citizen-candidate (one who has declared an intention to serve a term of Imperial Service) cannot be forced to serve their term in the Self Defense Forces.

Service in the Auxilia, Imperium's paramilitary reserve and civil defense force, is compulsory, every Sidh being required by law to attend periodic training, only active and retired soldiers being exempt.

Actual military service is strictly voluntary, but a requirement to obtain full citizenship, i.e., the right to partake in politics and assume a government office. A Sidh must complete no less than 3 years of military service to gain full citizenship.

Obviously, in the case of a defensive war (i.e., an invasion of an Imperial world), military service is obviously compulsory, every inhabitant of the invaded planet not employed in industries crucial to the war effort being mobilized for the defense of their homeworld. While the penalty for evading mobilization is summary execution, no true Sidh would even consider such a dishonourable idea - in Sidh culture, no duty is more sacred than to defend the Imperium, and no death is more glorious than one found on the battlefield.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

There is no compulsory military service in the Federal Republic of Suvarnadvipa.

Image

Most Suvarnadvipans think that a politically, economically, and militarily powerful nation makes the other nations think twice to invade their nation. Such patriotic mindset results in a huge amount of people who attempt to join the Suvarnadvipan armed forces as volunteers and active personnel. It means that there is no need for the Suvarnadvipan armed forces to implement compulsory military service to the people to strengthen its power.
