Before the arrival of humanity in TurtleShroom (pre-1600 AD), TurtleShroom was believed to have been a tribal, warlordism governance under the command of the vast smattering of various matriarchs and headmasters (respectively) of the turtle and mushroom species. There were hundreds of tribes, but they ultimately united into one large turtle tribe and one large mushroom tribe by the end of the sixteenth century.

From 1600 AD to 1796 AD, TurtleShroom was a loosely tied theocracy led by large bands of missionaries that settled into villages and towns.

From 1796 AD to 1912 AD, TurtleShroom was a diarchy (a monarchy of two codominant kings).

From 1912 AD to 2011 AD, TurtleShroom was a diarchial republic, with the monarchy disbanded. (No real change actually happened.)

During much of 2011 AD and part of 2012 AD, TurtleShroom was under command of a military junta.

From late 2012 AD to present (2014 AD as of writing), TurtleShroom has been a triarchial monarchy.

Following the fall of the Byzantine Empire, the geographic location of Distruzio maintained no unified political identity for nearly 500 years. For the better part of the 19th century, she was a Republic. Following the Great War Distruzio transitioned into an anarcho-monarchy and, after four generations, again transitioned into a consolidated Federal Monarchy.
