We were a monarchy up until the Xeklivian Civil War, where a bunch of traitors thought that it would be a good idea to spit in the emperor's face by suggesting we become a democracy!

So we slaughtered them all mercilessly and we've been a monarchy ever since.

In the early days the bands and tribes decided things more or less democratically amongst themselves.

Absolute Monarchy-1051-1647

Eventually tribal government gave way to the rule of a single person and democracy was lost for many centuries..

Time of Troubles-1648-1651

After Queen Yocasta the First was deposed for murdering a large number of the daughters of the middle class and minor nobility, the one who overthrew her, Amber, accidently set free the criminals along with the political prisoners. This resulted in a crime wave that took four years to deal with.

Absolute Monarchy-1652 to 1899

Sadly, the crime wave put Queen Amber off the idea of democratic reforms. Slowly anger against the monarchy grew from both the poor and the growing middle class.


Semi-Constitutional Monarchy-1900 to now

Rather then the possibility of revolution, the monarchy of Vallermoore gave up a lot of it's power and allowed political parties to form. The Monarchy still commands the armed forces, decides on pardons in death penalty cases, and if Parliament cannot make up it's mind in seven days and seven nights on an issue, can decide on the issue. Day to day government and most issues are dealt with by the Prime Minister with the support of Parliament. Whilst the 1st house of Parliament is almost always controlled by the ruling party, the second house has many parties. They manage to agree on most issues though, rather then having the Queen make the laws instead.
