No. Unmanned planes can do a very limited number of jobs, mainly reconnaissance and limited ground attack. Drones are susceptible to jamming, they can not engage in advanced maneuvers and the controller has less situation awareness than a regular pilot.

What this all means is that a regular fighter could easily out outmaneuver a drone fighter, and shoot it down. Additionally your opponent could just jam the drones link, and watch them all become useless junk.

Shameless bump.

Both JHMCS and Scorpion work and are essentially used for the same role, iirc. The only problem is that it's sort of difficult to find detailed information about either system, but they're both addons for existing helmets that allow cueing for high off-boresight missiles; I probably wouldn't say there are any significant advantages or disadvantages of going either way.

Very different planes with different missions.
The B-1 was a low altitude high speed penetrator.
The B-2 is a high altitude stealth bomber.

Likewise.

I personally don't see drones propagating far beyond surveillance and ground attack, since they have a connection to a command centre hundreds or thousands of kilometres away, which means there's a slight delay between your action, the drone doing it, and you getting the response that the drone is doing it. In case of a dogfight, that is a MAJOR weakness.

I personally think that there is a niche role for drones, but that's about it. Until we get better computers, so the drones become autonomous and fly themselves.

Something about it seems morally off

No the bullets from the ww1 plane wouldn't even dent the F-22 armor.

What armour?

The likely threat that the F-22 faces is 23mm and 30mm autocannon shells of varying types and shell splinters.
Armour will not protect an aircraft from much of this at all and will hinder some of its capabilities.
Proskoya wrote:
Spirit of Hope wrote:Does the biplane have a metal engine?

I bet you a F-22 could get a radar return on a biplane. The problem is that it probably couldn't use its guns to shoot down the biplane because of the speed differences. So you would be using a million dollar missile to shoot down a thousand dollar plane.

I wonder ... would doing a close pass at supersonic drive the little weak plane to the ground?

It can cause a woman to miscarry.

It'd be better if you got a designated tanker, but it would be possible. It'd be like eating soup with a fork. It would work, just not even close to how much better a designated tanker could.

The machine gun on a ww1 fighter plane is like shooting the F-22 with a 9mm pistol.

A typical ww1 fighter:
Made out of wood and paper
Has a 7.92mm machine gun

F-22A:
Made out of composite metals
Has a 6 barrel Gatling gun

Just going by armor and weapons the F-22 wins.

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure planes save for CAS craft that will be exposed to ground fire like the A-10 stopped having armour when jets and missiles started to become common. So the 7.92mm machine gun on a biplane could probably seriously ruin a F-22's day. And get enough 7.92mm holes in a F-22 and it's going to show up on radar.
