Does Your Nation Have Knights?

Postby Royal Imperious » Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:54 pm

Does your nation have modern knights?

Although rarely seen, in Royal Imperious, some Knight Chapters take hold in our military, they are called Space Marines. They are the Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Lamenters, Ultramarines, and the Imperial Fists.

Deathwatch, Chapter I, Vyrakk

Grey Knights, Chapter II, Vexicaus

Lamenters, Chapter III, Astrayas

Ultramarines, Chpater III, Vyrakk

Imperial Fists, Chapter IV, Vannadin

Together, these chapters make up the Adeptus Astartes, and the Grey Knights and Deathwatch make up the Sanctus equites Inquisitionis. They fight for honor, duty, and the glory of The God Emperor. Only Sactus equites Inquisitionis knights are referred to as "Sir" or "Madame"

If by 'Knight,' you mean a 'Sir' who has been given a title warrant by the Monarch, then yes we have Knights. If you mean a person who rides into battle with armor on a horse, then no, we do not.

Since our military is elite and hereditary, yes. But they're not the sort of knight in shiny armour -- that's too advanced for us.

Nope. They've been banned since maybe 1450 due to the fact that they kill dragons.

Not in the strictest sense of an aristocratic warrior caste, no. However, the Empire does confer a special status upon particularly capable warriors, called Dervish (unrelated to the original religious connotation, and possibly connected to the popular interpretation as a martial artist). These fighters are not ennobled; they are still regular military, whether high-ranking officers or common soldiers. However, their status is for life, and continues after their service in the military ends.

Though this status is occasionally granted to civilians, all the recipients are fighters with great skill in combat.

No such thing as a knightly "order" exists, but there have been religions dedicated exclusively to fighting. One of the more famous ones was the "Church of Prevailing Righteousness", whose battle-priests were renowned and feared many centuries ago. None of these organizations are still around, though.

Although we don't have any real knights, many like to dress up as them, particularly on Halloween and in the middle of tabletop RPG sessions.

Does Your Nation Have Knights?

Postby Parhe » Mon Mar 10, 2014 5:27 pm

"a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor."
If by lord you mean possibly the Head of State or Emperor then yes, we have knights.

"a man awarded a nonhereditary title by the sovereign in recognition of merit or service and entitled to use the honorific “Sir” in front of his name"
No.

Why, yes, many of Saurisia's predecessor states had knights (or their local equivalents) and many knightly orders, both religious and secular alike, continue to exist.

Yes. They were also important to our own military as their reason they were still in our army today was because they distracted the army of the other nation while the people with ranged weapons gave them the chance to prepare and attack. All of these were also our military techniques when it comes to ground combat.

We have a similar modern day equivalent of a Knight in the old Feudal sense of some military governor with-in one of our major states. They are not really legitimate and merely function to terrorize communities into working with the Kayçar. Of course they can reward loyal communities too, if their local general wills it.

They are not referred to as Sir or anything like that, but they are permitted and expected to speak in the dominant declension in the Uelvanian language, which puts off the message that they are better than you.

These soldiers generally are modern quality, and do not need expensive power armor or tank-plates covering them, preferring a simpler approach to battling Urban resistance.

Knights? Define knights. Warriors descended from nobility that swear oaths of honour and chivalry, but rarely ever live up to it?

Why, just give them more land, money, power and corruption and Oroloo's Heroes would fit the bill quite nicely.

They are divided up into Heroic Houses, each one founded from a 'Heroic Lord,' the first Lords of the Heroic Kingdom. Although, out of the original three hundred, only sixty six are left.

Soldiers are like our knights, they swear oath to chivalry ready to defend, be humble, be courteous, be loyal, be disciplined, become just and to tell the truth in behalf of the bayan.

A knight is a metaphor for a very good soldier that upholds all those unwritten codes.

No true knights have existed since 1922 when the monarchy was abolished. However the 12th Mechinized Infantry Division are known by the name "Knights of Nišavanja".
