Fighting skills need to be imprinted into the muscle memory to be of any use to a soldier.

It's pretty much impossible to make a highly skilled hand-to-hand fighter with 10-12 weeks of Basic Training, the time is better spent elsewhere.

Western boxing is probably one of the best martial arts to train to soldiers. The movements are very simple and instill the necessary confidence and dexterity that is far more valuable in a fight than knowing a huge number of ninja moves.
