Simply a reversal; how would the above Nation defeat yours? Even if it seems impossible try and give them the benefit if the doubt & assume they are even luckier than James Bond.

As for the System Lords, well the show pretty much explained that... They had the misfortune to run across Modern Humans (we can eradicate entire species without really trying)!
