Though a more structured case was laid out by Augarian law, the fact that Augarundus' Kanzler is also the Kaiser (a royal) complicates matters greatly, as the royals were hunted and slaughtered since 1922. Today, in 2014, Kaiser-Kanzler Otto Vitali holds the crown, and he is the founder of the Nationalist Imperium. There is no law as to who will succeed a Kaiser-Kanzler, especially in the case of Vitali's death.

Following a coup led by Klaus Ivanov (a member of the royal family that ACTUALLY ruled Augarundus, whilst the Vitali's married into the Ivanovs from their position in ruling the Principality of Mutralv, a major Augarian city), High General of Augarundus, Vitali was killed (Ivanov shoved a brand through Vitali's chest, burning and impaling him... which is pretty dark, considering they're cousins). Ivanov, however, was also killed when he met with Father Andrew Koredev, a Catholic priest leading Ivanov's armies and advising the General. Koredev shot Ivanov, the last heir to the throne, before killing a Catholic Cardinal who witnessed the murder. Koredev was excommunicated, and created a twisted military dictatorship in place of the conservative Federal Republic.

In the Nationalist Imperium, protocol for the death of a Kanzler whilst in office is such:
1) The High General will temporarily take the Chancellorship in the case of an assassination or violent event. If this is not possible, or if violent death did not occur, the Archbishop of Augaria will ascend to the chancellorship, whilst maintaining his religious position.

2) Should this not be possible for whatever reason, the leader of the Holy Legion (a Catholic priest, like Andrew Koredev. The Holy Legion is a seven-million strong sect of the military under the command of the Church and state) will take the Chancellorship.

3) If this is not possible, the Senate will create a military state, using the army to enforce law and order during the election of a new Chancellor. This is one of the Senate's few powers.

4) If the Senate is damaged or corrupt, the opposite of 3# will occur. Instead, the military will seize the Senate and a new Kanzler will be appointed (he cannot be taken from the military, lest it be possible he will be corrupt as a result of the conflict) from a credible position to hold power for a short period of time until the nation is stable enough for a new federal election.

5) It has come to this? It a state of anarchy, the office of Kanzler will be seized by war of major corporations and individuals vying for power. It has never come to this, save in the Communist Downfall...

There is no line of succession. If something happens to the Prime Minister, or even if it doesn't, Parliament can decide at any time to elect a new Prime Minister. The government doesn't meddle in the lives of the people to the extent that we need the next Prime Minister on standby.
