The first humans to ever discover Terachettes, the natives of Itanzia, were christian extremists, named the Eden Republic, who fled their home country to make a new one. When they saw the Terachettes scaly wings and tails, they were convinced that they were demons, so they went to war with them. After a brutal 20 year long war, about 90% of Terachettes had been enslaved. The remaining Terachettes were driven into the more isolated lands of Itanzia, like the mountains and deep rainforest villages. What followed after this was 200 years of slavery, easily the most horrifying and tragic era of Itanzian history. It only got worse after the final 50 years of slavery. At this time, the Eden Republic decided that there were too many Terachettes to handle and that it was time to purge the world of them for good. This led to an enormous genocide meant to bring Terachettes to extinction, after the genocide was stopped, only about 900,000 of the original lowest estimate of 250,000,000 Terachettes survived. The main routine for execution in the genocide was to rip off the wings and tail of the Terachette and then throw them into a large pit filled with water because Terachettes rely on their tails to swim and stay afloat, also the pits weren't cleaned, but were instead filled with more water and would be buried when they were 4 meters deep, then they would make a new pit.

In a much lighter note, 28 years before the end of the genocide, Altair Akkadia first revealed himself at the villages near The Guardian's throne, the tallest mountain in Itanzia, which could only be accessed by flying. With the Terachettes getting dangerously close to extinction, he was their species' last hope. He quickly gained support in building an army while he traveled throughout Itanzia as a kind of prophet and revolutionary. He showed the Terachettes his incredible abilities such as his incredible strength, speed, and his ability to bend the four elements. He let them know how they too could use Itanzia's unique creatures to help them do the same thing. After he spread word throughout the final holdouts of the Terachettes and got a sizable and growing army, Altair taught everyone about how a foolproof plan to drive the defeat the slavers and ensure that their great species would live on. Altair's plan was to teach the Terachettes how to work with the native dragons of Itanzia, and its other powerful species such as the Valithalisaurus, a marine predator larger than any other carnivore in the continent. Altair would also train them in what he called, the way of the shadow, a stealthy technique that was unmatched by any other civilization at the time. All of this training took place over 20 years until Altair's army was comprised of the most skilled and powerful warriors on the entire planet. The warriors trained in the way of the shadow would then sneak into death camps at night to arm the slaves for a revolution and tell them about the plan during the year before the final phase. The final phase of Altair's plan was to launch an enormous counterattack on the slavers' main settlements on October 31st, 1199, or as he explained "The day the sky will go black with ash and glow red with lightning". This counterattack was an incredibly massive operation that would involve Altair's entire army and the slaves in the death camps. He chose this day for the counterattack to strike fear into the cold, dead hearts of the slavers. On that day, thousands of warriors on dragonback flew over and incinerated the slaver cities while their catapults were blinded from ash and smoke. Meanwhile, the slaves would find use the weapons given to them to destroy Eden Republic from the inside out with the aid of what from then on is known as The Shadow Clan. It only took a week for Altair's forces to gain the upper hand, and only a month for the slavers to be driven away from their major cities and into the wilderness, where they were hunted down for the next month and a half. Because of this overwhelming victory after years of being a doomed species, most people believe that Altair was actually one of the Rachette guardians, who were told to be Rachettes trusted to ensure the survival of all intelligent species on a planet and build a DNA vault containing every species that ever existed on the planet. Many Itanzians also worship Altair as a kind of god because of the incredible things he did, the mystery surrounding him, and the likelihood of him being a part of the Rachette species, who are told to have godlike powers.

In some more lighter news, while the Terachette population was devastated, all of the races were able to survive and the species was able to quickly repopulate thanks to their incredible quality reproductive system and their ability to reproduce with any of their species' genders.

That'd be the Great Earthquake in 1852. It destroyed 3/4 of the capital city, killing 658,000 and leaving 105,000 homeless. The city was rebuilt and now it has 18,444,000 inhabitants.

The same earthquake affected quite many cities along the coast, not only the capital.

There was the (incomplete) genocide of the travelling community in 1865, then a second genocide which was effectively successful in 1934.


In 1865, the government then in power - a group of radical nationalistic racists - declared that each man should have a permanent residence (either by rent or ownership). Those who could not afford either were to be sent to large work houses, where they would be given accommodation, food and healthcare in return for working (for next to no wage). The travelling community at that point flat refused to settle, and continued migrating around the country in groups numbering from 40-150. There was an estimated number of 2,500,000 travelers.

At first, they were fined and jailed, and their caravans confiscated. Some at this point attempted to settle in permanent residences, only to be shunned by the rest of society. When attempting to fight back to save their 'homes', many were beaten and killed. A decree was issued, affording the police and military the powers to arrest and imprison anyone who refused to settle. Within four months, the countries prisons and workhouses were overflowing with people. It was then that the secret extermination of the travelers began (1867). An estimated 1.3 million were killed - the actual number unknown as no records were kept, estimates devised on diary entries by soldiers and police officers, secret document incorrectly disposed of and excavated mass graves).

When it was found out that the travelers were being executed, there was national outcry - despite the rest of the populace being incredibly against the travelers, who they seen as undesirable, lazy, liars, cheaters and thugs, they felt the tactic was heavy handed and essentially evil. Massive riots were held in many cities and politicians homes were burned and looted. When the riots were ordered to be put down, the army and police forces mutinied. The government was then overthrown.


In 1934, the Neo-Fascist party 'Connagh Nationalist' had been in power for four years. They attempted to introduce the same laws requiring people to own a place of permanent residence. At this point there was an estimated 1.7 million travelers remaining in the country. Immediately the public began bashing the government with lessons of history, so the laws were retracted, re-written in a softer tone, and introduced again. It supplied the travelers with designated areas in which they could reside [OOC: like the reservation for Indians in the US]. By the end of 1935 the areas were in place and any traveling community found outside of it, while not in transit, were immediately arrested and imprisoned. Very quickly, the reservations became subject to attack by mobs and thugs. They were often incredibly unsightly, dirty and overcrowded. Many were set alight during the night while others were subject to raids. In response the government formed a new reserve wing of the police, who were tasked entirely with protecting the reservations. In reality, the police often harassed the travelers and provoked fights in which they had the power to use lethal force. An estimated 200,000 died in this manner. On the 7th July, 1937, an order was issued in which all police members were retracted from duty, and the reservations left 'unprotected'. On this night, special units of the army, dressed in civilian clothes and armed heavily with rifles, machine guns, grenades and explosives launched attacks on the reservations all across the country. In this one night, approximately 1 million people died.

In the weeks following, whatever travelers remained were either killed on sight, imprisoned, fled the country or simply integrated into the rest of society.

The subject has become a dark episode in the history of Connagh, and is rarely talked about. The National Party has made public apologies in the past, and that was seen as the end of it, yet dependents of travelers often hold marches and memorial services in honour of their families.

There was a massive blizzard raging across the whole country for almost 2 whole months. Luckily, Buildings were mostly resilient to harsh weather and only some were un-repairable. This was a couple of decades ago and now it is just another part of history.

After the assassination of President Palzi in the winter of 1933 the government was taken over by the ultra religious Fellowship Party. Hundreds of thousands were slaughtered in an attempt to "purify" the nation's bloodlines, and in total over 2 million people died during the war. The horrific nature of that period has influenced modern Koderan society deeply, and serves as the inspiration for our people's focus on civil & political freedoms.

A severe famine left thousands of Plantlings dead, it also left villages abandoned, in villages hit hard by the famine, people went far enough to eat each other. Villagers flooded very wealthy and huge cities for shelter, and the amount of people fleeing were so large they had to be put in refugee camps, which were cramped, dirty, and had no food. The famine stopped when the king dropped off loads of food to the remaining villages. We still get chills down our backs to this day.

The Drought of 1969 created a famine lasting for about a year. The drought was quickly followed by floods.

The 1999 Revela bombings were probably the most tragic terrorist attacks in the nation's history. On March 3rd, 500 hidden bombs all around the busy areas of the city exploded at the same time (10:33 am local) and killed 2568 people.

The Great Storm Season of 1893. The entire country was battered by 5 hurricanes in quick succession, leaving only about 5000 buildings intact. Over 60% of the population was lost that year, and many others fled abroad. The rebuilding work took 12 years, and Orennana is still paying off its debts after borrowing nearly NS$5,000,000,000,000 (five trillion NationStates dollars). The population recovered quickly, but people still live in fear that the annual hurricane season (which usually claims around 25-50 lives a year and does around NS$1,500,000 damage) will one day become as bad as it was at the end of the 19th century.

The most tragic event happened in the 8th century AD. The original inhabitants of Renetopia, the Crkožan people (also called the Folkis) were massacred by East Renetopians. Many men and women were sold as slaves to work on farms, in mines, even in prostitution. Children under the age of 10 were adopted by other families, a lot of them didn't survive. Everyone else, either too old or too weak, was killed.
To this day there are no records that say why did this happen. To the Crkožans, it's known as the Méripen.
