I like the driver's hatch arangement. I didn't pick its gun because of how awesome it is or is not (not) but because it looks pretty and is 'good enough'. For the Shaddy 2 at least. :)

Happy birthday.

Looks like a shocking main weapon for a tank.

You can keep the L30A1's aesthetics without settling for the gun itself, y'know. :P

If it weren't for the interior constraints of the Challenger 2 (two-piece ammunition storage is a tad different to single-piece), the British might have considered a 120mm smoothbore in the near-term. Without necessarily considering the interior problems, however, you can technically say a 120mm smoothbore L/55 was fitted to the Challenger 2 - it looked a bit like this.

I think it helps to give my designs somewhat of a realistic feel if I try to do the guns as realisticly as I can.

I just selct a real gun and try to make it with sketchup.

Yea. Was in a rush to post and misclicked.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

Blegh, happens. For the record, I'll try to find things - both nice and hopefully helpful - to say about it once I can actually see what's on the body of the weapon (on the appropriate thread, of course).

Well, I mean, this is a real gun - albeit with fewer reference images accompanying it, I guess. My point is, unless you're doing the interior of the gun or tank as well, you won't have to worry too much about 'realism' because the exterior of a rifled and smoothbore gun don't necessarily have to be radically different. If anything, you'll be doing yourself a favour with a smoothbore option - both more effective when firing APFSDS rounds, but also easier to model because you don't have to do the rifling's grooves. ;)

I have already done them for an earlier design. You don't see it clearly in any case. :D

Damnit Anemos. You're blind to the fact that the French Army still advances in close-order columns supported by muzzle-loading artillery.

I think its time I design my own tank.

A notAMX-40 with a 105mm gun. Digital FCS, hunter-killer capability, air conditioning, hydrogas suspension. A combat load of 45 tonnes, so I can upgrade the frontal armor.

But, serious question: COTAC or EMES 18?

Why 105mm and not 120mm like it was supposed to have?

EMES 18. COTAC is a mishmash of parts meant to function until EPC was brought into service, to be honest, whereas EMES 18 is a system developed on the back of a complete hunter-killer focal FCS package designed for a 3rd generation MBT.

In its most rudimentary sense? The commander operates one sight, the gunner operates another, and the commander is capable of cuing up targets while the gunner engages them - which decreases the average time taken to engage a target.

Basically that there is some way for the commander to designate a target for the gunner beyond just shouting in his ear. The first tank that I know off that had something like that was the Conqueror.
