The only lighthouse in the Sultanate of Ouadai is the Batangafo Point Lighthouse, located on Lake Mongé, in south-eastern Ouadai. The lighthouse was built in 1971, part of a series of massive infrastructure investments which also saw the construction of the Ouadaian A-1 Paved Road system. The lighthouse was built to facititate trade and shipping up and down the Mban and Pendé rivers, which flow into the man-made Lake Mongé. The lake was created in 1951, following the completion of the Mongé Dam project, which created a 144 sq. km lake in southern Ouadai. The lake serves as a reservoir for the surrounding area, as well as a major transport artery between the upper reaches of the Mban and Pendé rivers in the far north and west of the country. The Batangafo Point Lighthouse is located of a spit of land extending over 500 m into the lake, approximately 9.2 km above the Mongé Dam. It serves as a warning and guide for the plethora of small riverine craft and barges which transport goods up and down the upper Mban and Pendé, warning of the upcoming dam and associated strong currents. The lighthouse is 21 m tall, and is preminantly manned by two specialists from Djarouf Province's Ministry of Trade, as well as their families.

The Spire is an offshore lighthouse marking the reef on Upwen Beach. Although initially called the Upwen Lighthouse, it got its endearing nickname from its tall pointy roof. The lighthouse is very old, predating the Workers Revolution, and considered a national landmark, so much so that its demolition was widely protested. The lighthouse was lovingly restored and became one of FWC’s main tourist attractions. It is still manned and active.
