New Aerios General Election 2014

Postby New Aerios » Mon Jan 13, 2014 8:02 am

4 years have passed since the election of our current Prime Chancellor, and, as per our constitution, it is time for a General Election. Before the election itself, though, the government has decided to ask the leaders of other nations which parties they prefer. Obviously, the final result of the General Election will be decided by the people's vote, but in the case of no clear majority, input from other nations will act as a tie-breaker. Here are the parties and candidates standing for election this year:

1: THE NATIONAL LIBERTARIAN PARTY
Image

The National Libertarian Party is the current ruling party, and the party of our current Prime Chancellor, Alexander Cain. He is stepping down this year, however, and is handing over the role of party leader to his deputy, Titus Aurelius. The National Libertarian Party prides itself on it's policies of almost total freedom of speech, no censorship, relaxed gun control, laissez-faire economic policy, secular government, and truly equal rights for all races, genders, and sexual orientations. They have a strict points-based immigration system to ensure New Aerios only takes in people who will contribute to society, and will not tolerate illegal immigrants. The party supports increased funding to scientific research and subsidies for nuclear power.

2: THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY
Image

The Conservative party is the second largest party in New Aerios. Their candidate is Marcus Knight, a former General in the Armed Forces. The Conservative party take a centre-right stance on economics, and support an expansion of the education system. They support the expansion of the military and intelligence agencies to protect against terrorism, and oppose the total freedom of speech advocated by the National Libertarians. They advocate repealing the laws allowing gay marriage, but will allow civil partnerships. They are anti-abortion, slightly pro-christian, and staunchly anti-immigration. The Conservative party support the continued use of fossil fuels, and are anti-nuclear.

3: THE MARXIST ALLIANCE
Image

The Marxist Alliance is a coalition formed from the Socialist Party and the Communist Front. Their candidate is Chad Wilson, a controversial figure suspected of bombing several large businesses. This, however, was never proven. The Marxist Alliance takes a far-left stance on economics, and have stated that they wish to completely outlaw private enterprise. They support vast expansion of all public services, and advocate a 90% income tax to pay for this. They support the introduction of laws to ban "hate speech" and "capitalist sentiment". The Alliance advocates strict affirmative action quotas to ensure equal proportions of races and genders in high level jobs. The Marxist Alliance supports total state atheism, a completely open-borders immigration policy, banning civilian ownership of weapons, and funding the use of a mixture of fossil fuels and nuclear power.

4: THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE IRON EAGLE
Image

The Brotherhood of the Iron Eagle are New Aerios' resident Neo-Nazis. Their candidate (following the assassination of their former leader) is Anna Schubert. The Brotherhood takes a corporatist stance on economics. They support the expansion of the military and intelligence services, a total ban on anti-government speech and ideologies, and the deportation of ethnic minorities and homosexuals from New Aerios. They wish to expand the public education system, and incorporate pro-fascist teachings into mandatory politics lessons in schools. The Brotherhood supports increased funding to scientific research, although mainly in the fields of eugenics and military technology. They support stricter gun control, and a total ban on weapons ownership by "undesirables". They advocate a mixture of nuclear power and "green" energy sources.

5: THE GREEN PARTY
Image

The Green party is a relatively new and rather minor party, springing up only a few years ago. Their candidate is former animal rights activist Elton Ridgeway, who founded the party when he was released from prison for opening all the cages in Divitae National Zoo. The Green Party take a centre-left view on economics, supporting strict regulation of businesses and heavy taxation of the rich. They have been accused of being "Stalinist cavemen", due to their authoritarian social policies, supporting the outlawing of "hate speech", the banning of guns, the censorship of any "anti-environmentalist" media, and (incredibly controversially) a total ban on all motor vehicles. The Green Party claim to support scientific research, but many fear that they will suppress any science which opposes their views. They are anti-nuclear, and support the construction of vast expanses of solar panels.

6: THE IMPERIAL LEAGUE
Image

The Imperial League are a rather controversial party, but fortunately not a very powerful one. Their candidate is Lord Jeremy Booth-Tisdale, a wealthy aristocrat and businessman. The League takes a right-wing view of economic issues, advocating minimal business regulations and a flat income tax. They support vast expansion of the Armed Forces, to achieve their goal of making New Aerios "the most powerful nation in the multiverse" through endless aggressive expansion and conquest. They support the deportation of people holding certain views, such as communism, to "a colony far, far away". They advocate the total elimination of social welfare, public education, and public healthcare, to pour more money into the military. The League supports the continued use of fossil fuels, and offers invasion as a solution to limited resources.

New Socialist South Africa supports the Green Party as the best option amongst six evils.

Green Party policies I oppose:
1) Banning of Hate speech (I believe all should have the right to say whatever they like, but acknowledge that all others can say whatever they like back).
2) Censorship of Media (The media is censored enough by its corporate donors, it shouldn't be further censored by the government).
3) The banning of guns (Guns should be able to be purchased, but only after the customer is cleared for not having any mental illnesses, violent criminal history or supremacist beliefs (ie. white supremacist, black supremacist, Social Darwinist, male supremacist, christian supremacist, etc)).

The rest of the policies are good.

OOC: By the way, those are some awesome political party logos!

Your attitudes towards economics appear socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a liberal.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a contemplative realist with few strong convictions.

Left = Liberal, Right = Conservative.

Liberal politics are more people-oriented and socially aware.
Conservative politics are more business oriented and economically aware.

OOC: Not really, the left wing is not libertarian, as it insists on regulating success with jealousy-based policies. It's perfectly possible to have socially libertarian and economically right (capitalist) parties.

Anyway, the National Libertarian Party thanks you for your vote.

The Green Party is essentially a bunch of crazy eco-fascist primitivist lefties.

And the National Libertarians, Marxist Alliance, and Greens support full LGBT rights including gay marriage. The Conservatives and Imperial League support civil partnerships, and the Brotherhood of the Iron Eagle wants to deport all gays.

Left = Liberal, Right = Conservative.

Liberal politics are more people-oriented and socially aware.
Conservative politics are more business oriented and economically aware.

OOC: Have you ever heard of a political compass? If you haven't then go look it up. Basically political position is along two very distinctly different scales: a civil freedoms scale and an economic freedoms scale.

Civil freedoms deals with the freedom, or lack thereof, of what to do with your own body in your personal life. The closer to the bottom you are the more socially libertarian you are. A social libertarian supports issues such as freedom to use drugs, freedom for pregnant women to have an abortion (pro-choice), freedom to marry and have relations with someone of the same gender, freedom to walk around naked in public, freedom to belong to any religion or to not belong to any religion, freedom to say whatever you want to say and generally the freedom to do whatever does not harm a fellow human being without their consent. The closer to the top of the scale you are, the less of these freedoms you are entitled to and the more socially authoritarian the party, individual or society is. Examples of this would be a pregnant women being unable to have an abortion (pro-life), certain drugs, religions and opinions being illegal, certain professions being allowed only for certain race groups, religions or genders, same sex marriages and relations being illegal and public nudity being illegal or compulsory.

The economic scale is the left / right one. The more left you are the higher taxes are and the more state intervention there is. Examples of Left economics includes a minimum wage, a large public sector (typically in education and healthcare), often the presence of some or significant state welfare and the idea of a certain amount of community upliftment for poor communities.

The more economically right you are the more free market or lassez faire an economy you support. Examples of this are lower and sometimes flat tax, business friendly politics, no minimum wage, widespread privatisation (even in education and healthcare) and the philosophy of "poor people should go out there and get real jobs".

In this case you can belong to the Libertarian Left (Green: Gandhi and Mandela, Green Party of the USA, Green Party of the UK), Libertarian Right (Purple: Libertarian Party of the USA, Liberal Democrats of the UK), Authoritarian Left (Red: Stalin, Mugabe, Mao Zedong), Authoritarian Right (Blue: Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, Republican Party of the USA, Conservative Party of the UK).

You can also fit in somewhere imbetween the boxes. For example Adolf Hitler was a socially very authoritarian economic centralist and Martin Luther King Jr. would be a socially libertarian centralist.

I'll source a diagram now (if someone hasn't already) to display my point in a visual format.

The People's Government of Libertade gives token support to the Marxist Alliance 'cause of proletarian internationalism and all, but they're not particularly well liked: Most Libertadeans consider them way too authoritarian. It's considered especially baffling and absurd that both leftist parties are authoritarian, especially when the only Party that is not tryna establish a police state utterly dominates national politics.

You have a harsh way of putting it, but pretty much. Is there a problem with expecting the poor to find jobs?

Flaming Soul Forces (Coðífin) supports the Green Party despite the fact that it is ''authoritarian''

OOC; It is clear that you are negatively biased towards the Greens since they are socially libertarian in real life. But in the end it is your nation and you can do whatever you want.

The Green Party thank you for your vote.

OOC: I know most Green parties IRL are socially libertarian. I wanted to make a different kind of Green party, one that was a completely batshit insane primitivist quasi-fascist party.

You have a harsh way of putting it, but pretty much. Is there a problem with expecting the poor to find jobs?

It is when the poor only have access to poor education, and when there are more people looking for jobs than jobs available. Is it so detrimental to the economy of a nation to provide basic education, healthcare, a little cheap food and a rudimentary shelter with clean running water and electricity to those who can't get a job? I hate the concept of a welfare state, I support the idea of an education and healthcare state with enough money put into keeping social equality to keep the unemployed alive. I have seen first hand the squalor lived in by the poor, I have heard of the terrible quality of education for the poor and I have spent three days living off food bought at the price equivalent to three dollars (it mainly involved eating rice). The scary thing is that in a world were people have private jets, mansions and convoys of cars, other people are dying from starvation, thirst and exposure.
"I find that offensive" is never a sound counter argument.

The wealth of humanity should be determined by that of the poorest individual.

Strength enough to build a home
Time enough to hold a child
and Love enough to break a heart".

I fully support a public education system, but I feel that is all that is needed. With education comes opportunity. The opportunity to succeed.
