Forgive me if I find that rather hard to believe.

You start by jamming it full of electronic equipment.
Commie tanks had fewer electronics because their computing in the Cold War was not advanced as the West, amongst other reasons.

Thermal sensors, laser guidance and ranging, even MMW emitters.
They can all be spoofed and otherwise messed with, but not rendered useless.
It is strictly true that more electronics and electronic control is more to go wrong. Look at the L94 chain gun. But they bring enormous advantages over mechanical or especially hand-driven systems.
Hence why those NS tanks would have an edge, if not the upper hand, over your vehicles.
It comes down to how much you want to throw out and what you want to live on.

Well yes, I know that on some level I was going to have to include electronics, even I could figure out I couldn't have a tank without any systems.
I just wanted to see how many of the latest and greatest electronic systems I could leave out while still being able to go toe-to-toe with most NS tanks.
I figured I'd need to compensate by adding on more armour, which would make the tank much heavier.
Hmm, maybe I really am out of my depth here.

Horizont wrote:I want to have some sort of 'ablative armor' for my tanks- I want it to be cheap to produce and the idea is that it will be supplied to troops at the front, who should be able to fit it onto their tanks with ease. It'll be layered on top of other armor and come in the form of plates. It should be able to effectively stop incoming projectiles and the idea is it gets destroyed in the process.
What material would be best to make this out of? Apparently ablative armor is distinct from reactive armor.

Seriously though, for tanks, your best use will probably be ERA.
The basic concept between "ablative" armour in fiction and ERA is the same, they just have different mechanisms.

I'm aware of that, I was just hoping that it wasn't impossible to field an NS tank capable of fighting other NS tanks without stuffing it full of the latest electronics.
