Association Football (known colloquially as "Soccer" or "Football") was brought to Osweya by Atlantyan immigrants in the 1750's, following the second revolution and the opening of the nation's markets to foreign capital. The first professional league, the Osweyan Soccer League, was set up in 1808 with further divisions added in 1867, 1901 and 1945. In 1980 the largest clubs set up a rival league, the Osweyan Soccer Championship; negotiations between the two leagues led to the Championship being integrated into the Soccer League as the new highest level, with concessions on rules such as marketing and revenue sharing within the league.
The largest clubs today are the Casteton Dragons SC, Casteton United SC, AFC Barrowyn and Telston Hotspurs FC. Between the four of them they have won over half of all possible Championship titles since 1980 as well as over one third of all OFF (Osweyan Football Federation) Trophies in the same timeframe. Most players from the national team are drawn from these four teams, and they have the highest revenues and average matchday attendances in the country.
