I read a GD press brief on the program a month ago. Which I believe makes me most qualified and most informed on the actual program here.
Anyway, all it said was incremental improvements for the current threat environment. Which I figure means M1A2TUSK +1, new build instead of refit. So it's not going to be anything super.

The ironic thing is, while I was doing an RP with France I made a Leclerc II with the Spanish player that had automatic target tracking/identification, a UAV launcher, and improved weaponry (we did not use RAM). The thing is, that sounds freaking expensive.

Compared to Leclerc 2015, clip does nothing. All it does, to my knowledge, is finally bring those challengers into regulation. They will finally be able to use HEAT and tungsten LRP (< more effectivlely) by finally getting a smoothbore. So now they can piggy-back off of Allied/NATO ammo stores and not have to make more on their own. Unless they've changed the program since I last read of it, which admittedly was awhile ago.

Wiki page says that, as of 2008, the project was 'under review' or some such shit, due to budget stuff.

I always wondered what an M1A2 would look like with a frontal counterslope/spacing. Not bolt-on ala Leo2, but built-in. Without altering the top-down shape of the turret hull, basically leave the sloped frontal armor headed down but then halfway down chop it to make a wedge. What would this even look like?
