Well a soldier sitting there in a shell hole waiting for the tank is going to notice that the back is vulenerable. The Germans were scared shitless over the Mk I but after a while they figured out their vulenerability.

I assume that in the late 19th century, those tactics haven't been thought of yet.

If someone comes up from behind than your infantry suck. These are going to be 1 per regiment, with a few specialized regiments with 10 or so, if you manage to get up behind a vehicle guarded by over 1,000 men than you are facing the least competent army on earth.

It's PT/FanT. I forget the name, but it has something to do with steam.

Also, it is kind of logical, as its a stretched limo version of one of the British Tanks in WWI. They weren't that far ahead.

It doesn't even use an internal combustion engine, it uses a boiler. If anything it is more like an armed and armoured train on tracks than an actual tank. Also, Banj is thinking of steam punk. As an added bit, it is full on realistic PT, it would have been plausible, just not good.

Actualy the way you described them being deployed, with the 1,000 men guards and other supports along with the fact that it the late 1880s most armies won't have planes or rival tanks, along with the mere shock value of some mad scientist monstrosities rolling across the battlefield, along with relative certainities and dash of luck of facing a army that still holds to Napoleonic ideas of strategy and it could be extremely devastating.

Yeah, but if you hit the artillery gun with anything explosive, or the boiler the whole thing is gone, no chance of suvivors.

Licana... the second to last tank is a real design. The Maus did see combat, if limited, during the Second World War. It's not practical, granted, but it's possible.

So is a twin barreled tank sporting exposed railguns, doesn't stop it from being retarded. To add, it's disputed as to whether the Maus saw combat, but from what I've read it's widely accepted that it did not.
