You can, but the actual year doesn't matter. Alternate generally refers to alternate history, in which case it doesn't matter if it's 2010, it can be steam-powered.

The year is actually closer to 2110, we just issue really, really, really retro equipment to our troops.

Some modern conveniences are utilized, of course, but for the most part we operate on a very steampunk-esque level. Steam power and antiquated weaponry are the norm.

While at that, do you think one could "fix" it somewhat? Like my tank tuning idea, if I could say cut... probably not 10, but a few tons.

Honestly, remove the "unneeded" skirts and turret armour, and you can cut an easy 25 tonnes off it.

Which is what the H is, really.

Scorpion isn't tall. At all. Compared to a real tank it's miniscule has no armor and an under powered gun.

Odd it seems way smaller in game. Plus only a 90mm cannon

 Fixed. @ Your modern steam punk tanks : Why do you still use steam powered tanks in the 21sy century?

22nd century, actually. My society, for various reasons, never moved past steam power. We're old-fashioned and change is scary.

That's not to say we haven't made any progress -- we've made it more efficient, cleaner and slightly less dangerous over centuries of refinement.
Of course, the amount of coal we have to mine is still astronomical and pollution is still through the roof, but that's a steampunk future for you.

i'm just basing this on the marines size, which would be somewhere like 5' 7" i guess, so it's about 12 feet tall or so.

I looked it up its over 3m tall and only has a 90mm cannon rendering it useless against anything with a reasonable amount of armor.

its 90mm, but it shoots a 90mm "tungsten slug" -referenced in game through the quotes such as "how does 90mm of tungsten strike ya?" - so its just a little less than modern tank KE rounds, but its late so my memory may be serving me wrong.

Yeah, I think humanity went through a dark age in the Halo universe at some point, regressing to a level of technology equivalent to the 50s when it comes to the equipment of their ground forces. Hell, they still use cased 7.62 NATO (yet only have an effective range of about 300 meters) in their ARs, even though the cartridge is over 500 years old by the time of the first Halo game.

90mm tungsten sabot = like 203mm or something since the Abrams has a 120mm gun and a 40mm sabot iirc.

1. 7.62 NATO has an effective range of about a km in the M14 and FN FAL.

2. If it ain't broke, don't fix it? I use the 7mm Remington Magnum in my FT battle rifles, and that's over 2,500 years after it was invented. Of course I don't call it the 7mm RM, but it's literally the same dimensions, with one extra mm on the case length since I like round numbers.
