The aim of the game isn't to use the best weapons for everything. Besides, have you still not learned that I prefer aesthetics over performance?

If you choose aesthetics over performance, why did you turn down the most aesthetically beautiful weapon every created (short of the Gewer 43)?

No no, I was wrong. The Mauser C96 is the better looking pistol.

Completely inferior to the Nambu Type 14.

Have you worked out the point I'm making yet?

Now, because it's technically Christmas here now and because I'm totally in the holiday spirit, I'll announce that the first (deactivated) firearm I will ever own will be a Mosin Nagant, instead of the expected FN FAL, purely for cost reasons. I'm not getting on for Christmas, I'll just use the inevitable income of money from this strange holiday.

So, apart from matching serial numbers and stuff like that, what should I look for?

I also hear that the pre-war manufacturing allowed them to be of higher-quality, so that would drive the price up.

As a collection piece, historic value, therefore monetary value, matters more.

Besides, I'm pretty sure a cheap Mosin would have shot just as well as a less-cheap Mosin.

Karelian line infantry would use the old, classic AKS-74 well into the 20's alongside 6B3/4/5 armor, with the '5' being the most widespread and eventually having carriers to use standard SAPI plates. The '4' is an oddity and maybe some poor bastard in the northern wastes might have one, though atleast the plates are made every few years to swap out the old ones. the '3' is more of a low speed high drag and spetsnaz piece, and the protection varied on who was using it, but generally it was also converted at the same time to use the same SAPI style plates. Helmets are the standard steel type, there wasn't really a need to change this up since the uniforms also remained the same since the late 80s. Uniforms are primarily the 'Afghanka' style uniforms, either in its original coloration or in a obvious M05 copy. Radios are mostly found with squad and fireteam leaders - the Mk.1 shout for everyone else.

All branches use the same equipment, though interior troops use different helmets.

Aside from the base of the rearmost cartridge, it would not affect stacked length.

Though, since these tubes would be factory loaded, I assume the rearmost cartridge would not require the locking collar. So that could be almost entirely a cosmetic fix.

I am considering, though not with barrel inserts, 30 and 35mm versions, at least as concepts. 30mm certainly, since an early design goal would probably be to replicate the AGS-17/30's cartridges with the Metal Storm technology. The 35mm concept due to my infatuation with the Type 87 grenade rifle.

I suspect that the later prototypes didn't use the preloaded tubes but went the individual grenade route like the 3GL did. It would make the ammunition just that little bit less awkward to carry around.

Imperializt Russia wrote:An early foray into the 30mm launcher I was already considering was just taking the VOG-30 30mm grenades and putting them in a mag-fed OICW with a twin-magazine of 7mm and 30mm

I hope you don't put the muzzle velocity much above 70 m/s.

Well, there is a shoulder-fired grenade launcher firing 30x29 VOG-30, I can only assume at full velocity, and can be fired from the hip by geriatrics with little difficulty.
Pallad-M, another shoulder-fired grenade launcher, is supposedly also pushing 40mm grenades to 175m/s

Irkut People's Revolutionary Army, motorized infantry platoon layout. For the sake of the loadout, I'm just going to use Russian weaps rather than my notRussian weaps knock offs.

Platoon commander (AKS-74UN)
Platoon sergeant (AKSN-74)
Combat medic (TT-33)
Platoon RTO (AKS-74UN)

3 x
Squad leader (AKS-74N)
Gunner (PKP)
Assistant gunner (AKS-74N)
Grenadier (AKS-74N w/ GP-25)
Grenadier ((AKS-74N w/ GP-25)
Rifleman (AKS-74N w/ RPG-30)
Rifleman (AKS-74N w/ RPG-30)
Rifleman (AKS-74N w/ RPG-30)
Rifleman (AKS-74N w/ RPG-30)
Designated rifleman (PSL)

Gunner (AKS-74UN w/ 9K111 "Bassoon")
Assistant (AKS-74N)
Assistant (AKS-74N)

Platoon is transported by 3 APCs (some sort of unholy amalgamation of the Sisu Pasi and OT-64) carrying 14 dismounts each, with one rifle squad and two men from either the command element or the anti-tank team in each.

Edit: I should note that I'm debating about switching the -74s to modified OTs-14s chambered in the same 6.2 round)

Some shops don't look at the inside of the Mosin for anything but problems but if you take the bolt back and find plugged receiver holes. That will designate the rifle as a snipers variant. I personally have never seen one in real life. My one friend said his was and he was severely disappointed when I told him is wasn't.

So if you find one. It's rare. And it's very accurate a lot more accurate then your normal Mosin.

There's probably a reason it's an ex-sniper.

For a deactivated, wall-hanger model such as what Ford is looking for, all that will really matter is whether the numbers all match, whether or not the stock is a refurb. or war-time original, and what condition said stock is in (ditto for the metal). Izhmash vs. Tula depends entirely on his preference in arsenal/logo.

Pardon me for being dense, but who the hell cares if it has matching numbers or what arsenal marks it has if its going to be non-firing and hanging on the wall? You aren't buying it for collection value, you aren't buying it to shoot, you're buying it to remain stationary and spark conversation when you're in a room with guests. All it needs to do, as Spree said in his post, is look pretty.

I should grab a picture of my Mosin wall hanger and post it.

@Atbelow: Just lie. :P Tell em fucking Zhukov carried it. Tell em it was the same one used in Enemy at the Gates. Most of the people you tell aren't going to know the difference or be in a position to dispute it. What are they going to do? Demand you take it down off the wall and let them look at it?

Saves you money at no cost in credibility. :P

Still a chance it's above average in it's shooting potential. But since he won't be firing it then that won't matter.

If he's going to hang it might as well be able to talk about it as a conversation piece. Having a sniper rifle that may have been used is a great convo starter.
