Well, not AK as in behind the ejection port. More like just a large lever. It would look more Cold Warish, I reckon. Not sure where it would go though.

That, combined with the relatively long bolt travel, straight-line layout and FG42-style buffer should make felt recoil negligible, especially with an intermediate.

If you were aiming for a GP round like .280 British or 7mm UIAC, yeah. Or if you kept the OAL under 65mm.

So, there's a bit of basic backstory;

Shortly after [WWII-analogue], engineers from [insert country] were examining leftover [Nazi Germany-analogue] small arms projects, and were highly interested in technologies developed for the Gerat 06H and FG-42. With the Cold War becoming a more and more serious possibility, the government commissioned a new small arms project along the lines of America's SPIW program. The combination of the buffer system, muzzle break and straight-line layout of the FG-42 with the ingenious roller-delayed blowback system of the Gerat made for a weapon which was extremely controllable when fired on full automatic. The bullpup layout allowed it to have a full rifle-length barrel in an SMG-sized package, creating a weapon which was equally suited to the plains of the Fulda gap as it was to the crowded streets of Stalingrad or Berlin. Originally, the weapon was supposed to fire a 4x43mm sabot'd Flèchette round, but issues with lethality and barrier penetration in prototypes resulted in the transition to a more conventional 6.5mm bullet.

Open-bolt sear conversion, combined with a 60-round casket magazine and a heavier, longer, more finned barrel. Increases the fire rate substantially as well.
