So, I should just give it a rifled barrel along with the Minnie ball?

Yep. Rifle it all along if it's a dedicated sniping/marksman weapon. Rifles have existed since before the flintlock.

Technically it is. Designed to break through thick wooden shields with Wasters strapped on them used by larger Wasters (Like Orcs but subhuman). It's essentially Fordorsia's first AMR.

This particular musket was commissioned by the government in 1790 for use by the Militia against these new shield-bearing motherfuckers who didn't give a shit about smaller musket balls. Two were made and used, and the conversions to rifles would be in 1802.

Any idea what range such a weapon could achieve as a musket or rifle?

The BHDC uses a 1.5/4.5X selective optic for general purpose use it is recommended for ranges from 100-750m . Marksman rifles use a 3/6X optic for 900m

How many layers do you usually end up making?

Depends on the weapon in question. Generally, I'll have three base layers for all the component groups. Each group is an Object with some layers of its own, and then each part has an Object, which may or may not have layers. It can get pretty crazy.

Yet moar. I'm not totally sure about the carry handle...

Handle reminds me of the late model AR-10s. I like it.
Also why do all of your pictures show up in quotes

Kouralia wrote:So... Standard optics of your men: what are they?

Benomian soldiers are issued with a 2x magnification scope standard. The design was inspired by and draws influence from both the Austrian Swarovski scope and the Russian PK-A scope. The magnification rating was selected as it was determined to provide the best combination of long-range accuracy and short-range usability. It has a simple reticle with a basic rangefinder and range increments, and is adjustable for windage. It is named the VJ-S (Jauta Skiedru Vispareja), lit. "General Issue Optic").

Other optic systems used:

VJ-AS. Essentially a smaller version of the VJ-S, the VJ-AS has a 1.83x zoom and is issued on PDWs and carbines.
SJ-S (trans. "Sniper Issue Optic"). Enlarged version of the VJ-S, variable from 2x to 6x. Issued on LMGs, MMGs, DMRs, and HMGs.
HBK "Hunter". Unique design. Variable from 6x to 18x. Issued on sniper rifles, anti-material rifles. Often fitted with a night fission adapter.

Aside from limited optic-emulation capabilities in their helmet HUDs, CATs generally use whichever optic or optic suite the Arsenal Division packages with the weapon at hand. The standard optic for the Aucken T-series GPR (the standard-issue rifle) is the KA-2112b General Purpose Marksman Optic, with variable zoom up to 6x.

The exact same thing they use for the German army variant of the G36. But without the carrying handle.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

Model 1790 Wall Musket

Cartridge: N/A

Caliber: 25.4mm / 1.

Effective Range: 100 meters

Maximum Range: 180 meters

Rate of Fire: N/A

Feed System: Muzzle Loading

Bought as a pair in 1790 by the Fordorsian Militia, the Model 1790 was among the largest muzzle-loading black powder firearms ever made. The muskets were designed to counter the increasing number of large Wasters strapping their smaller kin to thick wooden shields, allowing them to cross the Silver Wind bridge in relative safety. These shields proved to be effective against the mismatched and varying caliber muskets of the Militia, and since much of the Militia's equipment was bought by those serving, many were forced to chip in to afford the Model 1790's.
Starting as a smoothbore musket firing round lead balls, the Model 1790 was relatively inaccurate despite it's extremely long barrel. The round ball was still very effective against the Wasters' shields whenever it hit, punching through all their layers and into the individual holding it, usually completely destroying whatever body part it hit.
In 1802 after the invention of the Minnie ball, both muskets were converted, replacing their smoothbore barrels with rifled ones, making them much more accurate at longer ranges.
Both rifles saw use at the Silver Wind bridge for a further 30 years before being taken out of service. Both rifles still survive and are on display at the Fordorsian National Museum.
