You'd almost certainly have all the materials on-site to build fougasses and napalm-fuelled mines and the like.

What actually is the question?

What would happen if I took a 30x163mm round and removed the projectile, than caped the case with say cardboard or cork just to keep the powder from falling out and fired it from a handgun at people from point blank range?

Can't be that unorthodox.
You'll have varying grades of oil and petroleum product, heavy chemicals and binding agents. You'd be completely able to produce napalm A or B mixes from the chemicals on-site at an oil refinery.

Good idea. But what would happen to the poor guy I shot? Also, how much of a lethal range could I get for the fireball?

The bullet may not survive.

You have seventeen times the propellant mass of Eargesplitten Loudenboomer.

I don't intend the bullet to survive. It only needs to plug the case so that the powder does not fall out before I fire it. All the damage is supposed to be done by the muzzle flash.

Basically, imagine a short barreled 30mm boomstick with a trumpet like muzzle firing 30mm fireballs.

True. In fairness though, if you're going to use 6.5mm CBJ then why use any other loading?

That brings us out of .25 acp territory and into "stabbed with a skewer" territory.
Even with a good hit, a 4mm hole will bleed very, VERY slowly

Which again brings me to my above point. If we continue to judge cartridges solely by their abilities as one shot man stoppers, then we shall never move past .45 ACP and 7.62mm NATO. Admittedly, a 4mm wound will do very little by itself. That's why you take advantage of the non existent recoil to pepper the target with multiple rounds. One 4mm hole bleeds slowly, but six? Not so much.

I frequently defend small caliber bullets, but 4 mm is small to the point that you are endangering your own troops.

Kinetic energy is a poor way to measure terminal ballistics, most of the extra energy is wasted on temporary cavitation, which doesn't do anything in handgun calibers.

I was under the impression that kinetic energy was one of the prime factors in terminal ballistics...

It's as long as the 5.7 FN and is the ballistic equivalent of 7.62 Tokarev.

As I recall, you didn't mention the 5.7mm FN. I was merely pointing out that it was somewhat silly to bash 10mm auto for being to big and unwieldy, and then suggest a bigger cartridge.

You can design guns to withstand frequent firings of +P+ loads as the russians have been doing. Their 9mm loads are up to 30% more powerful than standard 9mm loads.

You can indeed design pistols that will reliably take +P+ loads. However, to the best of my knowledge, they tend to be heavier than their standard counterparts. I may be wrong on that though.

Define "more powerful," because that sounds rather similar to "more kinetic energy," which you just claimed was an ineffective method of cartridge effectiveness measurement.

It's slightly longer than 10mm Auto, but narrower.

Is true.

Pyrophoric Fougasse

Explosive Core:

Ten kilograms of HNE-12 (Hündenburg Military Science Institute Nitroamine Explosive XII [Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane cocrystal with HMX, fortified with 2,4,6-Tris(trinitromethyl)- 1,3,5-triazine)

Detonation and Projection Mechanism:

Diazodinitrophenol Exploding-Foil Initiators placed in explosives at the bottom of the materiel storage unit, linked to detonator receiver through external cables

Projected Materiel and Storage:

200 liters of jellied triethylaluminum (mixed with 4.2% polyisobutylene and 1.4% silicon dioxide), stored in a welded stainless steel drum

Placement and Usage:

Typically placed lengthwise in a one-meter-deep hole with the explosive charge in the back end of the hole and the detonator wires leading elsewhere to the receiver, generally concealed with miscellaneous matter fitting to the setting, oriented with a commanding angle of the target area

rice + beans = brazil.

bonus points if the beans are dark beans and you put sliced pepperoni / a bit of bacon / meat (personally i enjoy beef jerky) in that. add some water and congratulations - you have a "feijoada". tipically done separate from rice, but eaten with it. i suppose that, for being a popular national recipe, most field kitchens would serve it.

Is true.

According to a very informative link Galla posted a while back, "kinetic energy dump" is not a significant factor in wounding potential.
However, the same article also believes hydrostatic shock theories to not only be incorrect but trivially simple to prove such. Which can't be true, unless Puz doesn't actually have a job.

Tule's posting a while back of the equivalent-KE 6mm BB and ~17.5mm buckshot pellet also, in theory, partly dispels notions of kinetic energy dump. It showed that the much slower, much fatter projectile carved a significantly more traumatic wound channel, despite reduced temporary cavity formation (at least, relative to the diameter of the main channel).

I just wanted to know if the fougasses were constructed in a practical manner. The explosives could be too great or too little to properly bust the triethylaluminum container and pitch it in sufficient concentration, and I may not need or want to use triethylaluminum at all.
