I'd say keep the Bren regardless.

I'm starting to think of moving the Bren to my airborne units, as an equivalent to the MAG in non-airborne units.
The more I look at my infantry the more I want a heavy/light mix, and the heavy mix can have MAGs on every vehicle, or more!

The BREN isn't very equivalent to the MAG, on any real level. As cool as it is, the BREN should really be replaced or in the process of being replaced by the MAG if the two are coexisting.

If you want something smaller and lighter, look into adopting a 240L MAG or something, or just chopping down the barrel on your own variant.
Or for extra cool points, the Minimi 7.62

MG3 fires the same 7.62x51mm as the HK21/11. Taden gun fires the smaller .280 British. Madsen feeds from a rather small magazine, making it unsuitable for MG usage, and saying a SIG design is roughly akin to specifying "a Mercedes sedan."

While Beno's (Bezo?) constant promotion of the G3 and it's derivatives can, at times, be a smidge annoying, it's a refreshing change from the constant FAL and Kalashnikov fapping.

HK33/G41 for the average solder, MSG3/MSG90 for the squad DMR, HK11E for the LSWman, HK21E for the GPMG, HK23E for the LMGer, HK25 for the HMG, HK51B/HK53/MP5K-PDW for the tank crews/pilots.
