If my army was marching into Stalingrad or the trenches of the Somme I would probably issue them with combat shotguns as well. But my point was that this is not exactly a common situation in modern maneuver warfare.

they could be good for garrison troops in recently occupied areas, but apart from that and the odd special forces team use is limited in the modern day

Which is what I said.

Really, as someone who takes extra care to design every piece of equipment my army uses I still feel combat shotguns are niche enough to just buy off the shelf in which ever hunting store offers my army the best discount.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The 870 is extremely widely used as a military, police and hunting shotgun.
Off the shelf is probably the way to go.

Seriously this.
Most pump-action shotguns, especially the 870 and the Mossberg 500, can handle any type of projectile you'd need to use. Whether it would be doorbusting or shot, an off-the-shelf pump-action can handle it.
They're cheap and reliable to boot.
The only semi-auto that I'm pretty sure performs in a similar manner would be the Saiga.

Saiga's pretty famous for stovepiping. Pretty sure people say it's from overburdening it with shit, and probably bump-firing too, but it's something to take a note of.

My Saiga-12 has had the occasional stovepipe during the break-in period, but that was still with low-brass. I've never had malfunctions with high brass of any kind. If your military is using low-brass, you're going full-retard.

Lately I've been working on a set of uniforms for my forces, and this is what I have so far:
Image
Left: Autumn Model Uniform
Right: Temperate Model Uniform

Before I use this as a template for more developed versions (i.e., officers, special forces, full battle dress), are there any glaring problems that will need fixing? My goal was to make it look dated, but still be adequate for modern combat.

I've done quite a bit of training with trenchgun techniques, and personally think they are the way to go for assaulting.

That said, I issue shotguns as primary firearm to my infantry squads. Rifles, machine guns, etc, are specialist.
Now, a squad has a lot of specialist weapons, but that's beside the point.

I was under the impression that, even with slugs, shotguns are ineffective at even short (100m) ranges.
Do you only expect to engage in ultrashort-distance combat, or what?

I've heard very different from this thread's regulars.
I've heard that normal buckshot is acceptably accurate to 150m, and slugs extend that to over 200.

Question!

Is CTA ammunition any more expensive to produce than the standard?

I'm looking at a companion rifle for the Arch G11. Something cheap, and slightly more conventional. I'm thinking bullpup Kalashnikov thing firing a non caseless 3.92x30mm round.

Please, call me Arch
