Apparently it was actually built that way.
As in they tried to to a krummlauf with the ppsh-41.

Do you happen to have any information about if it actually worked (as in, the bullets actually came out in one piece), and, if so, was actually used in any significant numbers?

If I remember correctly, its German StG 44 counterpart often resulted in the bullet breaking up as it traveled around the curve, giving it sort of a shotgun effect.

I was aware of periscope rifles, the Krummlauf, and the Cornershot. I was not aware of a nation other than Nazi Germany experimenting with weapons that actually had physically curved barrels.

Well that's a shame, it does make sense. I can't really see the specific need of shooting over trenches and cover justifying the production of an entirely new variant of the PPSh, when one of the major points of the PPSh was how cheap it was.

I'm not saying it's a bad weapon. I'm saying it's a bad idea to issue it as your main rifle.

The AR-15 isn't a general purpose weapon that's designed to modify into LMG variants.

Well, Chrome on my Moto G doesn't like multiple quotes. It refuses to put the text cursor at the end of text without physically dragging it down (with effort) and sometimes the screen goes into disco rave mode on the "select tab" screen.
I also have to put a space at the end of one post, because if I try to paste the next reply, it will do so over the last character (if punctuation) or word.

Hmm. . . I've never had an issue with the tab screen, but past that it sounds identical to issue I've had as well. I eventually got tired of it and switched to Firefox, which is still rather quirky, but in more manageable ways in my opinion.

Shit. . . this post is completely lacking infantry.

The 4.6x33mm already operates at around 50kpsi, while the 5.7x28mm operates at around 35kpsi, with really hot handloads getting up to around the 40kpsi mark.

Eh, is true.

Don't 5.7 loads have to be careful with how hot they are because of the case shape and the fact that the P90 is direct blowback?

It seems Chrome's a fiddlier beast than I'd realized.

Still a lot more processing and materials involved than two rectangular slabs of cheap wood.
In addition, you'd then have a left side and right side piece, non-interchangeable. More work, more expense.

A gun like this should take 4-5 man-hours to produce. Even half an hour turning and sanding wood (unrealistically fast) adds a great deal to production costs, which were mostly labor even in World War Two. Most likely wooden grips would be eliminated quite quickly, since they aren't essential. Ornamental embellishments like that bizarre safety wouldn't make it in at all.

Stamped steel guns should be distinguished from things like the Sten. Stens were cheap because they were ruthlessly simplified to the point where they could be made quickly by unskilled labor anywhere. Stamped steel weapons like the Grease Gun or typical Nazi crap, on the other hand, were advanced technology that only a handful of firms could pull off in the 40s. It's actually an initially expensive way of making guns, since it needs a relatively large capital investment and serious industrial design skills. The cheapness comes from the massive economies of scale possible, not from sticking a pipe on top of a metal box and calling it a day.

Use was same as the shoot around corners wizard thing for the StG-44: For tanks and urban combat mostly.

Do you happen to have any information about if it actually worked (as in, the bullets actually came out in one piece), and, if so, was actually used in any significant numbers?

I know the mythbusters bent a barrel 180 and the bullet only lost 15% of it's speed.

And the Germans bent a barrel 30 and the bullets came out in tiny pieces.
