oh no nothing of the sort. the modifications were added to counteract the weight of the rail system which covers the Foregrip and the top part of the receiver to add on additional sights

I have had the opportunity to handle an FAL with minimal rail additions (receiver cover and bolted-on sections for a flashlight), and it was still quite heavy. However, had the bipod been removed, it may not have been as bad. Can't remember if the buttstock was polymer or cerakoted wood, but I do know the barrel had been shortened a little bit.

I've got four that I have to clean, what method works best? Degreaser/hot water bath followed by some scrubbing? How can I clean the furniture easily without damaging the finish?

For outfitting a military in a PMT/Early FT-minus-FTL setting, would using

-Ballistic weapons for standard issue

-And possibly coil-assisted ballistic weapons as specialist weaponry

-And Laser CIWS, THEL systems and the like for mobile anti-air mounted on trucks

be practical?

There's probably a reason it's an ex-sniper.

For a deactivated, wall-hanger model such as what Ford is looking for, all that will really matter is whether the numbers all match, whether or not the stock is a refurb. or war-time original, and what condition said stock is in (ditto for the metal). Izhmash vs. Tula depends entirely on his preference in arsenal/logo.

Pardon me for being dense, but who the hell cares if it has matching numbers or what arsenal marks it has if its going to be non-firing and hanging on the wall? You aren't buying it for collection value, you aren't buying it to shoot, you're buying it to remain stationary and spark conversation when you're in a room with guests. All it needs to do, as Spree said in his post, is look pretty.

I should grab a picture of my Mosin wall hanger and post it.

@Atbelow: Just lie. Tell em fucking Zhukov carried it. Tell em it was the same one used in Enemy at the Gates. Most of the people you tell aren't going to know the difference or be in a position to dispute it. What are they going to do? Demand you take it down off the wall and let them look at it?

Saves you money at no cost in credibility.

It's not that I really care about how rare or valuable it is, I'd just like to know what to look for and how to spot something the original owner didn't. If I buy a regular rifle and it turns out it was a sniper model, so be it. It's not like I'll be selling it on for a profit, as I'll always keep it.

I don't know if I'd even hang it on my wall. Someone will catch a glimpse of it through my window and the police and their non-existing officer's discretion will deem me a murderous psychopath wielding a French semi-automatic rifle or some shit.

If it's got a hexagonal receiver it's an M91, if it's got a round receiver it's an M91/30
or something like that

Nope. They just use scarves if it gets colder than normal.

Standard issue as part of cold climate gear for military forces, the police also get issued thinner ones for concealing their identity.

iirc some Eastern European states issue them to their police to shield their identity for when they interact with organized crime elements.. what's your take on that? in theory it sounds alright but the policemen may now abuse their powers seeing how they couldn't be identified. Is a special procedure in place to allow victims of police brutality to report this behavior? E.g. if you can give evidence for the deed (for example if you have bruises or whatever) . . . are the names of the police officers publicized before or after it's proven they are in fact guilty? Or is their identity not publicized at all and the reason for whatever administrative/disciplinary action taken is held secret?

No, just a face-scarf under the helmet. Between that and the HUD visor they're pretty anonymous, though.
The aim is part protection against the wind (NV is in space, but air, so it's a serious concern) and part identity concealment. The idea isn't so much protection as to promote the concept that every Safeguard is equally helpful - if people can identify them by their faces, they tend to get more attached to "their" Safeguards and so might be more reluctant to cooperate with others.

Balaclavas are really only seen in the east, in the Torc mountain chain.

Elite infantry teams and special forces are issued balaclavas as a thermal/dust shield and to conceal the wearer's identity. In some cases the fabric is treated to offer mild protection from weak chemical agents (i.e., tear gas thrown by insurgents), but in practice these are rarely worn as the thick material hinders breathing and is of dubious effectiveness in the face of a conventional chemical attack. In recent years there has been a push to make the balaclava a standard-issue part of the Winter Pattern Uniform's cold weather kit, but as of now most soldiers make do with scarves wrapped around the lower face and neck.

The Sevvanian military has been known to use balaclavas primarily for dust protection, although they are also used in situations that would requite the wearer's identity to be concealed.
