The more I look at my infantry the more I want a heavy/light mix, and the heavy mix can have MAGs on every vehicle, or more!

This is pretty much what the british did, by the mid to late 70s most regular infatry units were using the MAG (gimpy) in the light role at section level and the paras used brens for everything right up to battalion level. infact the vast majority of the british MG work done at goose green was done using the bren, particularly from tripods. TA and those non infantry units with section level MGs still retained brens right up until the SA80 transition.

M6A3 with 35-round magazine. Not pictured: 71-round drum issued in far greater numbers than the 35-round box, and the 40-round casket that is just now entering service.

Upgrades over the basic M6A1 include:

-PCAPs instead of rails. The M6A1 was adopted less then a year before PCAPs were formally introduced, and just barely missed the designing of the Benomian official PCAP. The M6A3 trades the standard NATO rails for Benomian-regulated Keymod style PCAPs, but are still issued with rail adapters on the PCAPs so older attachments can be used.
-A newly designed magwell that, with a simple magwell insert, allows the M6A3 to fire 7.62x25 +P that the APR-13 pistol uses, using APR-13 magazines, rather then copies of the Puzik (Puzikian?) 7.62 Shipunov, which requires a deeper magazine and magwell. The design of the bolt and chamber were also altered to allow 7.62x25 +P to be fired without changing any parts, even the barrel.
-Revised iron sights that are less obtrusive, yet taller. The experimental XM6A3E1** doesn't have any iron sights at all.
-The change from AR-15-type grips to a proprietary grip. This decision was made to incorporate a new recoiling spring that is placed inside the grip (similar to the SG550), which did not support the usage of AR-15 grips.
-Color was changed from greenish-yellow to darkish grey.
-Altering and simplifying of the collapsing stock. It locks closed and open, unlike the M6A1 which locked at three points, but is much simpler to use and manufacture than that of the M6A1.
-Simplifying of the charging system. Instead of a right-hand side rotating "charging lever" of the M6A1 and A2*, a more conventional charging handle similar in nature to that of the FN FAL is used.

The M6A3 began to phase out the M6A1 almost as soon as it was introduced.

*The M6A2 is, essentially, an M6A1 firing 7.62x25 +P from APR-13 magazines. It was never issued in any large numbers, and was made obsolete by the M6A3.
**The XM6A3E1 was a modified XM6A3, with extended PCAPs, no integral sights, a longer handguard, 400mm barrel (compared to the 250mm barrel of the M6A1/A3), fixed stock with recoil spring, and AR-15 grips.

As usual, any and all constructive critisisms and comments on the design, art, write-up, or concept itself are fully welcomed and encouraged.

Totally forgot about a fire selector. Will add.

Disassembly is pretty much like this:
The top PCAPs are screwed on with a simple screw. Unscrew it and remove the upper PCAP system.
There's a button beneath the rear of the sight base, facing user. Press button. The top piece below the PCAPs will then pop off and you can just take it out.
From this point it's just unscrewing the stock, bottom PCAPs, both sight bases, and popping out the single pin with a cartridge. Then the large center segment can be slid out and all of the interior components are visible.

Did FN actually make anything notable other than the FAL? (notable as in with equal or superior reputation and production counts, number of users etc.)

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

That works I guess. So it's 3 guns total + unremarkables. Oh well.

Do you train your grunts in ambidextrously firing their rifles? I keep on hearing about it and realize its' benefits (firing around corners on your dominant side, if losing dexterity in one b/c of injury or whatever, etc) but is it something that's really mastered and used in actual combat? It just sounds like a hard thing to pull of consistently, that's all.

This struck me while I was contemplating chest-mounted knife sheaths (pic related)

Image

for my grunts, and seeing how that setup could prove uncomfortable (rifle stock sits on knife instead of shoulder), I was going to make right-handed grunts place the knife on the left side of their torso and vice versa. But it would still get in the way for this ambidextrous firing I'm hearing about.

What is so reputable about the FN 303? Nothing of interest IMHO.. It's not very good at that "less-lethal" bit, search for yourself. In AmeriKKKa a woman (google says Victoria Snelgrove) got shot in the eye and died as a consequence, and according to Wikipedia's undoubtedly accurate and trusted *sigh* sources, in Luxembourg an RTL cameraman got shot with one in the finger, breaking it.

Now, we can assume all cops in the world are stupid idiots who have no idea what they're doing (which is a viable assumption really) OR the thing has shit accuracy. Training (if not, at least common sense) should tell you NOT to hit someone in the eye, or anywhere in the head region for that matter, regardless of the size of the "LESS LETHAL" sticker and NOT to hit someone in the hand (darned RTL cameramen! it surely must have been a prop camera actually containing a flamethrower or RPG!) , especially not in the back of the hand (which is probably what happened unless, even worse, the policeman hit a cameraman who wasn't even facing him, or was putting his hands up or protecting himself with them), because obviously there's very little fat or muscle there, only relatively fragile bone.
