Breheim is a secular nation, with an irreligious population of 37%. Views on religion are mixed, with the religious majority in general being in favour, while the irreligious minority generally being opposed (although, the degree varies). Breheim has a total of three unofficial 'national' religions, those being Lutheranism, Asatru and Alfartru (the two latter being variants of norse paganism). A branch of irreligiousity, 'trinitism', hold that the values these religions share represent Breheim's true national character, and is a common belief among fascists and nationalists in the country.

Ritual attendance (defined as regular attendance of religious events, such as church sermons or pagan blots) in Breheim is low and has been in a downward trend since 1922 (when the officially atheist Socialist Worker's Party was elected and initiated their ninety year reign). Only 21% state they attend religious functions once a month or more often (but 72% state they attend religious functions at least once or twice a year). Ritual Attendance is particularly low among the Lutherans, at 8% who attend functions once a month or more often (however, nearly half of Catholics state they attend religious functions once a month or more often).

We hate the very idea of any organized religion, we think that the time spent "worshiping " an invisible man could be used on more constructive things. Ironically we are still very tolerant to those that still choose to practice.

Our constitution bars the government from acting to promote or discourage any religion and also bars religious discrimination in our elections.
Demographic date shows that 53% are Christian (42% Protestant, 11% Catholic), 12% other and 35% atheist.

We're not a particularly religious nation. Parts of the Kiwi District, perhaps, are. In the Antarctic districts, as well as Penguinopolis, the only permitted religious structures are for the more liberal Episcopal Church groups, Greek Pantheon worshipers, and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the latter two mostly for the parties and chuckles. Private religious meetings of other faiths are allowed, but religious groups are taxed.

The Pope and his cronies are not welcomed here.

We don't have a religious "traditional value" lobby. We tend to reject politicians who insist on bending society around their particular spiritual dogma. We're not an atheist nation per se, but we tend to emphasize reason. Many believe in some kind of higher power, but aren't all particularly stringent about it.

But then, our IQ standards for full citizenship usually weeds out some of the more colorful believers.

The republic is a secular state that neither favors nor oppresses any religion.

Religions are expected to agree with the separation of church and state doctrine of the government to be allowed to practice, and religions that have the goal of establishing a theocracy or expecting worshipers to obey a foreign head of state or religions that advocate illegal acts are banned.
For: Free thought, 2 state solution for Israel, democracy, playing the game.

The vast majority of the population are atheists or non-religious, and the prevalent view is that religion is indicative of mental illness. There are very strict constitutional limitations on the ability of religious people to have political influence.

In spite of this, there have been legislative changes to allow greater degrees of religious freedom, while a recent Supreme Court ruling gave religious groups the ability to proselytise (something they were previously banned from doing) under the grounds that religious institutions are tax-paying commercial businesses and to prevent them from advertising would be to prevent them from being able to do business freely.

Gylias is officially a secular state. The general opinion of religion can be summarised as:

  • It must be kept away from government at all costs.
  • It works best when it contributes to social harmony, encourages people to follow good principles and help their fellow humans.
  • It works worst when it's used as an excuse for smug, better-than-you grandstanding, perverted for immoral gains, or used to sow division and encourage hatred and distrust of others.

The USAR is a secular state but most people (85%) are religious. A plurality of the population are members of the Afrikaner Catholic Church, an organisation semi-affiliated to the Roman church.

Sectarianism is not a big issue in the USAR and most people are 100% tolerant of other faiths. Our current President is a practising Reform Jew.

Postby Lzherusskia » Wed Dec 25, 2013 7:53 am

I've alluded to it before elsewhere, but here is a good place to explain Lzherusskia's stance on religion.

Centuries ago, in the days of the monarchy, the Mineyev Royal Family reigned supreme in Lzherusskia. Although our civilization had evolved from the extremely primitive notions that the King or Queen were themselves gods, their word was still treated as near-divine mandate and some of our rulers believed or claimed to believe that they were God's emissary to the world in much the same way as the modern-day Pope is treated. As time wore on, however, fewer and fewer of the Lzher people believed and the amount of Roman Catholics dropped with shocking speed - some simply defected to other Christian denominations, some adopted alternate Abrahamic faiths and the majority simply stopped believing altogether.

This beget a period of Lzher history still looked on with shame. King Anatoli IV's decision to tackle the problem was to declare on war on it - with a series of edicts, the King made Catholicism the national religion of Lzherusskia, made it illegal to believe in any non-Christian faith at all and made heresy punishable by death. Upon his death a few years later his son, the new King Roman V, made the problem even worse by sealing the Lzher borders and declaring Protestantism and all other non-Catholic denominations of Christian illegal as well. Revolution, already in the air, was fomenting fast.

When the bubble finally burst, in the reign of King Semyon II, it was this attitude to religion that was the main cause. Forcing any kind of values on a populace unwilling to accept them will always engender resentment and, in retrospect, the fact the Mineyevs were allowed to go into exile unharmed was testament to the unbelievable human capacity for mercy. In the hope of avoiding another similar situation in the future, one of the first edicts of the Mjatesz Republic was President Alexei Kochenkov declaring Lzherusskia a state in which all religion was to be welcomed and treated with equal respect.

Sadly, it was not to last. After less than a century of peaceful rule, Eli Lavochkin orchestrated a coup in order to seize total power, naming himself President-for-Life and dissolving the Lzher Zakorunav. The descendant of Jewish great-grandparents who had been executed in the reign of Roman V, Lavochkin made the mistake of doing exactly what the last Mineyevs had done - inflicted his own religious beliefs on an unwilling population. An avowed and extremely bitter atheist, Lavochkin outlawed religion in totality, ordering his secret police to arrest religious leaders across the country and torturing them until they recanted their beliefs or died.

Today, Lzherusskia is officially a religious blank. Lzher citizens are free to follow whatever faith they choose without fear of retribution, with one exeption - public displays of religion have been outlawed. The intention behind this was to eliminate any potential for religiously-motivated violence and, thus far, has worked. Critically, it avoids making the same mistake as its predecessors and forces nothing on anybody. As of the last census, approximately 41% of the nation identifies as having no religion and interestingly, for the first time in recorded history, Judaism is the majority religion, with 23% of the population identifying as Jewish and only 21% as Christian.

In Polgrusan, Christianity is very important.
The Church Of Polgrusan is a church that studies and follows the New Testament, which is also taught in schools. 97% of the population is part of The Church Of Polgrusan, 2% is Catholic, and 1% are followers of other religions. The people are encouraged to act like Jesus, which generally helps out. Priests go to the army in times of war, to preach and help. We never persecute anybody for their beliefs. The Church Of Polgrasun also donates to other poor countries, and helps the homeless and the sick.
I'm a Christian. I have no doubts about God existing. Deal with it. You big poo.

Minrozians considered religion as part of their lives, to the point it's considered civilized to be religious. Despite being a devout nation, religious extremism is not welcomed and forbidden by the law. It's acceptable for Imperial anthropologists to consider any religious nations to be civilised, those without (especially highly-secularized nations) tended to be regarded as barbarians. The Minrozians tend to find secularized states as bizarre or weird. However, this doesn't stop them from interacting. Although the Minrozians are stubborn enough to believed in the existence of the gods.

The Kadigan people have developed a deeply philosophical society and generally regard organized religion as highly suspicious at best. In an age of growing extremism and intolerance, they believe that their posterity is better served by the promotion of reason and science than by the propagation of superstitions and ideology. They aim to study, expound upon, and teach the best that humanity has to offer in a free and open environment. The Constitution officially declares Central Kadigan to be a secular state.
