Most Pulsrothi citizens are fluent in the country's dominant lingua franca, English, as well as Welsh and Maheâlani, which are Pulsroth's 2 additional official languages.

Yes, many Ruvians can speak the native tongue, as well as the trade language of english. this is especially true among the well educated and those who live in urban areas. In more rural, remote, and traditional areas of Ru, english is significantly less common, and there may be only a couple of individuals in an entire village who can speak it.
A civilization with an over 3,000 year history of lizard people killing each other and enslaving everyone else. Now they've finally calmed down and formed a modern westernized constitutional monarchy. (long live Emperor Yoshio!)

Note: Any factbook entries over a year old are severely out of date and may be subject to extreme revision and retconning soon. If you have questions on anything about Ru, please feel free to ask.

Needing to know multiple languages is key to survival/living in the Free Land of Hypercapital, as the country or 'nation-state' as they call themselves, is multilingual and doesn't have an official/national tongue. English and its dialects/variations aren't the lingua franca, but more-so the language of most comfortability.

Filipino citizens are most likely to be found bilingual, considering the numerous native languages present inside the country. But the most likely combination is Filipino/Chabacano. Filipino is the national language, based on a nucleus of Tagalog–the language used by the largest ethnic group in the country of the same name–and continuously enriched by other native languages. Chabacano is Spanish-based creole and gradually replaced the usage of the Spanish language from Filipinos due to its closeness to the native tongues, accomodating dialects all over the country.

No it's not. In fact, there isn't even a single national language—there are several different Alemannic dialects spoken throughout the Grand Duchy, none of which have a standardized spelling or pronunciation. Alzatia is primarily a rural nation with little to no service industry, so it doesn't make sense to learn foreign languages if all you're gonna do is butcher horses.

Postby Greater Carloso » Thu Mar 19, 2020 8:59 pm

Carloso is a bilingual country. The two languages spoken are English and Carlosian. English is the everyday language of most people, with the exception of the northwest of the country where Carlosian is the primary language. 99% of people can speak English, with about 85% being fluent in Carlosian. Carlosian is derived from Spanish with influences from English, French and Portuguese.

The reason for bilingualism is due to Carloso's colonial past. It had been a colony of Spain from the early 1500s until it expelled the Spanish in a rebellion in 1581. After just under 130 years of independence, Carloso was mostly conquered by Britain in 1709 and endured 130 years of suppression of Carlosian, which was then beginning to diverge significantly from the Spanish language. The reason northwest Carloso remains Carlosian speaking firstly is because of the Spanish intervention soon after the invasion which established a puppet state there and didn't crackdown on the divergent language. When Carloso regained it's full independence in the 1830s, the Carlosian language had dwindled in use in the British occupied zone but experienced a massive revival throughout the 19th century, with the government encouraging bilingualism as an official policy to unite the culturally divided country. This included reverting all placenames in Carloso to their original Spanish/Carlosian versions.

Many Carlosian people have a high level of proficiency in Spanish due to its similiarty with Carlosian. Portuguese and French are popular foreign languages of study in Carloso due their use in neighbouring countries like Agostinia (Portuguese) and Barssois (French).

A big percentage of Province 14 citizens are quadrilingual, or capable of four languages: Arabic, Dwipantaran, English, and their respective regional languages. Most citizen uses regional languages in their daily lives, which consists of more than 700 different languages scattered around the archipelago (the most widely spoken being Javanese and Sundanese). To communicate between different islands and ethnic groups however, Dwipantaran (a Malay-based language used by inter-islands traders since the 16th century) are used as a lingua franca. Arabic is the Khilafah's official language, which saw limited use outside the elite Arabic ruling class, while English is the international language of commerce.

Bilingualism is common in Rwizikuru, generally between weRwizi (the native language) and Gaullican, though the older generations have a knowledge of Estmerish. The reason is because of a combination of geography (surrounded by former Gaullican colonies) and our determination to distance ourselves from our Estmerish colonisers.

Federally, Canada is a bilingual country (English & French), however, the province of New Brunswick is the only province that is officially bilingual and in Quebec, only French is the official language. However, in Quebec, out of necessity as it is in an English-dominated country, most of the inhabitants are able to speak both English and French fluently at least eventho they’d prefer if someone could converse in French with them and in New Brunswick, only about 33% are bilingual.
Holy cow I haven’t touch this game in ages.
