Is bilingualism common in your nation?

Postby Calumnia » Mon Oct 21, 2013 7:31 pm

In Calumnia, everyone speaks at least two languages. If you can only speak one, you're usually frowned upon. The most common spoken are English, German, French, Spanish, and the indigienous languaged called "Calumnian."

It is an otherworldly no-brainer that bilingualism (though I could speak any languages) is frequent.

Any Irken who may encounter non-Irkens tend to know a second language, as no other species have yet to learn any Of the Irken language. So 100%.

Yes, usually between Luziycan and English. Plenty in the north are bilingual with Swedish and Luziycan, but many there are trilingual (those two plus English).

Most Imperials are at least bilingual due to the multicultural nature of the Empire. Trilingualism is more common, and enterprising omniglots are not that rare either.

Tsvarchivans are multilingual.

Tsvarchi has six indigenous languages (Darkaanian, Atrulian, Estakurian, Taerakian, Cuerakian, and Rikiyanian), and which one you speak depends on which borough you grew up in.

Tsvarchivans speak Maraquean as a bridge language (and was actually constructed from Darkaanian and Atrulian for this express purpose), otherwise interborough tourism and commerce would be rather difficult.

Then English is a mandatory course throughout school and college/university, and the most commonly spoken language among our foreign population (which constitutes 51% of our population).

So Tsvarchivans speak no less than three languages.

Bilingualism is very common since Vampirum is filled with people from all over the world who migrated to the country after becoming a vampire. Most citizens can at least speak English and one other language. The secondary language varies depending on their original homeland. The three languages most are fluent in is English, Romanian, and Shadish.

As the vast majority of the population (perhaps over 70%) are foreign migrants and immigrants bilingualism is almost a given. Even those native to 250land almost all speak the national lingua franca: Esperanto. Other languages common across nationstates such as English, French and Russian are also extremely common.
