Sorry I went inactive with this nation; as some of you know I was pretty busy during that time, but now I have more time for NS.

I used to run an alliance, and a region. Not that it matters now.

Formal Nation Name: Republic of Astronea/Astronean Republic
Nation Population (RP wise, it cannot over-exceed your current population): 256,000,000
Active Military Personnel: 1,876,730
Date your nation was created in (must be a month old): Cannot remember exact date, at least one year old, recently reactivated a couple of days ago.
Any troubles with the mods?: None.
Do you accept the Atlas Constitution?: Yes.

Founding of a Republic
Petrovsky sighed as he sifted the debris from his chipped oak desk. The presidential office was still a mess from the violent coup d'etat three weeks previously. A violent military uprising saw the destruction of the old Federal Guard, the previous leader's most loyal paramilitary unit. His malevolent and corrupt rule had finally been ended when members of the 4th Commandos' asymmetric warfare detachment infiltrated the Federal Palace, fought their way through militiamen and disabled perimeter defences. The people did the rest of the work and the military watched on. After three weeks of martial law, Petrovsky had been elected as the man to replace him. With that, the Republic of Astronea was established.

Astronean Armed Forces summary:
Branches:
Astronean Ground Forces, Astronean Artillery Corps, Astronean Republican Navy, Astronean Republican Marine Corps, Astronean Republican Air Force, Astronean Paras (light/elite infantry), Strategic Rocket Forces, Strategic Air Defence Forces, Astronean Internal Troops, Republican Security Forces, Military Intelligence Directorate, Central Operations Command, Special Operations Command, Republican Guard, Logistics Corps, Strategic Missile Troops, Tactical Information Wing, Chemical Warfare Detachment, Unconventional Warfare Detachment, Republican Commando Corps (Special Forces), Asymmetric Warfare Detachment (Special Forces).

Summary (Ground Forces): Infantry training is considered to be some of the longest for any main infantry force in the region, taking 36 weeks with BCT, individual advanced training and advanced "shocktrooper" training comprising of intense CQB firing drills and hand-to-hand combat. National service is mandatory for men aged from 18-27 years, minimum service time is 2 years, although due to good pay and job security, many stay on as professional soldiers in excess of 6-8 years for the standard infantry soldier.
Astronean Military Doctrine is to have a strong reserve force for wartime, and maintain a moderately sized and well trained professional army. Equipment for the regular infantryman is comprised of battle proven, rugged gear that is simple to operate and extremely difficult to break. Only NCO+ and designated marksmen carry optics above a CCO. All troops are issued baseline NVGs, though their quality varies between branches, with Special Forces receiving thermal optics, and Paratroopers receiving advanced AN/PEQ 15 IR lasers. In the field of battle, maneuver, survivability and coordination are essential, combined with overwhelming fire support to halt enemy advances and bombard defences. Combined amrs and manuever warfare are emphasised.
Uniformed service is seen as a rite of adulthood for every Astronean, and national service is widely viewed as the final step to becoming a man. The military is held in wide regard by the public as a valid and respected career option, with an emphasis on professionalism and comradery.
Assessment of Officer Corps: All officers must have attended higher education at university level, and receive much more physically demanding training than non-enlisted, on top of an initial 15 months of military leadership academy, all perssonel must complete basic and advanced training, shocktrooper and officer training, which includes the field commanding of some 30 men, taking place over a 52 week period.
NCO ranks fill the gap between enlisted and officers, and officers are generally widely respected by their men, as this respect is earned. Chain of command is meant to alleviate strain from Lieutenants, following the NATO ranking system. Officers are attached in the same dwellings as their units, with separate rooms. Close bonds between non-enlisted and enlisted is essential, to maximise communication and fluidity within a unit. Overall command structure of the wider hierarchy is constantly tested to ensure it is strategically capable. Frequent war games are held in which scenarios are set up, then played out over the course of weeks involving huge maneuvers and strategic operations between all branches of the armed forces. Coordination of nearly all branches is handed to Central Operations Command, who oversee the majority of the armed forces in times of war or crisis. Individual commanders hold positions of authority within Platoons, Batallions and divisions. Many of the staff are subject to extreme scrutiny, and any signs of incompetance is met with demotion and replacement of a more promising subordinate, although many high ranking officers develop an almost cult-like status among their men, as their prowess and reputation gains them the upmost of respect.
Assessment of Logistical Capabilities: Logistics are an essential backbone of any army, fleets of vehicles including aircraft are fielded by the logistics corps, supported by a huge military industrial complex that is completely self sufficient. All weapons and vehicles are domestically manufactured to high quality. Good quality MREs are issued to troops, as well as top of the line Infantry First aid kits, fresh uniforms are regularly replenished and ammunition is stocked and restocked almost daily. Weapons and vehicle maintenance work to peak efficiency, and armoured Engineer Recovery Vehicles are on standby to recover damaged vehicles in any combat zone.

Let me know if you'd like me to provide any more examples.

Not to sound pissy, but I was kind of hoping to keep the active military at that number. I do have a lot of RP experience on various platforms, and I've done two nation RPs (not NationStates, but I did use Astronea) previously which included entire campaigns based around regional tensions between three local powers, went rather well if I say so myself. Granted, I haven't RPed much on the Nationstates forums. I'd like to keep the number as it is, would an additional RP example change your mind? If not, I'll reduce the numbers.

Granted, I haven't RPed much on the Nationstates forums. I'd like to keep the number as it is, would an additional RP example change your mind? If not, I'll reduce the numbers.

Sure the more examples the better, more specifically if you have any battle/war action RPs...

I've RPed on Facebook (yes that's a thing), FF.net, Tumblr, various individual forums and Garry's Mod HL2RP, as well as other games and communities. I'll put some extra RP examples in the spoilers below.

Asymmetric Warfare Detachment provide JTAC for ARAF Frogfoots:
"Drekavac 1-1 checking in, flight two Su-25s, armament KH-29s, KAB-500s, rockets and 250 rounds 30 mike mike, play time 30 mikes, standing by for tasking, over."

The low rumble of the Frogfoots could be heard over the horizon as the sun slowly rose over the landscape, lighting the dry, dusty savannah in a red hue. The silhouettes of men formed against the treeline of a small patch of flora. They maintained a low profile, rifles shouldered and at the ready. The hum of mosquitos filled the air, but there was otherwise relative silence, hardly a sound from the men in the bushes. Their team leader keyed into the comms, clad in desert DPM fatigues, sporting a baseball cap and headset, low profile goggles shielding his eyes. Two more men stood near him, one carrying a large radio pack, the other peering through the lens of a laser designator.

"Drekavac 1-1, Sierra 2-1, copy. Standby for AO update." The team leader spoke over the radio, nudging the operator wielding the laser designator as he whispered to him. The man nodded and began feeding back information.

"Drekavac 1-1, Sierra 2-1, AO update. I am a qualified JTAC with the 3rd AWD, 4th Commando, 450 metres east of Sudentor. Type two control, we're observing an artillery position, 3 self propelled howitzers and auxillery supports, theatre level AA threats. Say when ready nine line." A brief silence. Then a response.

"Sierra 2-1, Drekavac 1-1, ready nine line."

"Drekavac 1-1, Sierra 2-1, as fragged, 230, offset north, 8.6, 2-0-0 feet, artillery position, grid 0-9-3-2 keypad 4, target marked by laser, code 2344, friendlies 400 metres east in the treeline, egress at pilot discretion."

"Sierra 2-1, Drekavac 1-1, read back, 2-0-0 feet, grid 0-9-3-2 keypad 4, friendlies 400 metres east, treeline. Ready remarks."

"Good read back."

There was another silence as the planes began their ingress. Tensions were high as the team observed logistic trucks offloading more ammunition. Another fire mission was bound to begin shortly, they needed this battery taken out now.

"Sierra 2-1, Drekavac 1-1, requesting walk on, I see a stream running north to south, a farm."

"Drekavac 1-1, Sierra 2-1, call contact on the northern most barn adjacent to the stream."

"Contact."

"Your target is the artillery pieces and logistics trucks 600 metres south west of the barn."

"Captured."

"Sierra 2-1, Drekavac 1-1, target is artillery battery 0-9-3-2, keypad 4. 4 KBL-500s, 80 metres spacing."

"Good read back, call in with direction."

"In from south, 30 seconds."

"Continue."

"15 seconds."

"Cleared hot."

"Off hot, fall time 10 seconds." The jets screamed past at high altitude, followed by a large blast, sounding like a missile launch.

"Drekavac 1-1, SAM launch detected, advise egress now, say again, abort!"

"Drekavac tallies, dumping countermeasures, we are charlie mike."

Moments later, a succession of huge explosions rang out, decimating the vehicles on the ground. Ammo cook off provided further explosions as smoke and dust filled the air.

"Drekavac 1-1, Siera 2-1, good hits, targets destroyed."

Astronean MiG-31s engage intruding B1-B Lancers over Republican territory during wartime:

The call was given. The interceptors were scrambeld. Belkan strategic bombers had been detected by MiG-25 reconnaissance planes flying over the coast. They were on flight pattern towards major bridges in the Astronean capital and connecting military bases, a preemptive attack was imminent. The 97th Interceptor Division “OFNIR” took off from Skimitar air base at 0130 hours in pairs at a time, a flight of six Mig-31BMs and one SAAB-340 ARGUS AEW&C plane, half of the division's aircraft. Simoultaneously, the 98th Interceptor Division “Bumblebee” was en-route from Sveren Proving Grounds airfield towards the capital of San Ventorez. With air patrols already in place and an additional 12 interceptors, AWACs and recon planes now airborne, the hunt began.

OFNIR flight lead Major Larry Faulke begin approach towards the coast, where the bogies, presumed to be Lancers, had been pinged. He glanced at the radar as a small dot formed, no visible IFF.

"Radar contact, one flight, two unidentified aircraft 200 kilometers and closing, bearing north at 0-2-5, thirty angels." He called over the radio, a response of "tally" resounding from the rest of the squadron.

"Closing to 170...Overlord, requesting permission to engage."

The AWACs responded almost instantly.

"Affirm, you are cleared hot on all bogies."

The targets began to close to 120 kilometers now.

"Tracking targets...ready active radar..." Faulke called out as he switched the master arm on, arming his R-33 long range.

"Target is at 100, Fox 3, two away!" He called out as he launched his missiles.

The rest of the squadron fired one Fox 3 each, sending a total of seven R-33s at the B1-Bs. They didn't stand a chance, even with evasive and jamming, domestic radar, combined with the Fox Bats' ELINT and the AWACs, there was no escaping all locks. At least one missile made direct hits with both aircraft, igniting the fusilage and damaging engines and avionics.

"Splash, two down, good kills." He called out over the radio.

The 98th Interceptor Division "Bumblebee" would later be able to confirm two kills, while air patrols manned by Su-35S and MiG-29SMT fighters from the 17th Tactical Fighter Division “Grabacr” would claim the kills of two Lancers of their own. However, while all enemy aircraft were downed successfully, some were able to drop their payload of Mark 84 2000 lbs unguided bombs on bridges across Astronea, rendering them damaged and uncrossable, with multiple civilian casualties.

This would mark the invasion of the Astronean homeland by the coalition forces of Belka and Smertnosny, in which all sides suffered heavy casualties. Eventually, a war of attrition would take place, and both sides would call a cease fire. The later attempted nuclear missile launch by Belka to break the ceasefire was foiled by Astronean Special Forces, specifically of the Asymmetric Warfare Detachment, who infiltrated Belkan territory and sabotaged the launch facility. The attempted nuclear action would be met by global condemnation, even by Belkan ally Smertnosny, bringing an end to the occupation and an international embargo and sanctioning against Belka, rendering the nation a pariah state.

Hey Gibbs, why don't you join with your main nation?

My history/lore/canon is already heavily intertwined with Esquarium, and to move would mean completely restructuring my entire history. Sorry. However, I plan on being active with this nation than I was before.

EDIT: Sorry, but can I change my map position to #35 instead? I feel 11 is much too big for me. Thanks.

Pretty much what I thought (I have another friend who used fb and the like to RP on), and those examples are very nice. Accpeted
