Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?
Public prostitution is illegal, and is only permitted in private or in brothels

If it is, is it regulated in any way?
It is regulated by the Elvectican Brothel Guildship and is fully non-profit and independent from government funding. However, the government exercises its control by revoking business licences when it deems fit.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?
Citizens who commit acts of prostitution are sentenced to more than one month of community service maximum, and is ordered to abide probation for more than six months.

What is the government's stance on the issue?
The government discourages prostitution all together, but also encourages family planning and contraceptives.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?
Citizens prefer not to speak about such things, as it’s considered a taboo subject. However, in some circles it’s viewed as a pass-time.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?
Some Deanumtine cults support the widespread acceptance of sexual intercourse between women as a form of “purity” and “becoming one with Her Eternalness.”

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
Some social progressive groups advocate for the removal of all brothels and advocate strict laws against public nudity in general

Is it important to the economy in anyway?
In some more remote parts, brothels are a big centre of commerce for towns and villages and is part of their historic background.

Anything Else?
Public figures are widely scrutinized if they participate in prostitution, since it’s often deemed cowardly and ‘peasant-like’ in the eyes of the ruling classes.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Yes
If it is, is it regulated in any way? There are minimum health and safety standards that must be met and maintained if working at a brothel or is services are advertised, citizens engaging in one-time exchange of sexual intercourse for payment is virtually impossible to regulate, and any consequences that may arise can be settled in court
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? N/A
What is the government's stance on the issue? We highly recommend a formally written contract is signed beforehand, for the safety of all persons involved
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? It's awesome! -Random Katasian citizen
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? Yes, it is supported by most people on the grounds that they have the right to do with their own body what they wish
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? Some religions don't like it, but they aren't really considered major groups
Is it important to the economy in anyway? Not any more so than other industries of comparable size
Anything Else? Pimping is also legal, though with a bit more regulation. It is rare to find "street walkers" in Katas, as most business occurs within brothels ;regardless of where a sex worker performs their work, they are most likely unionized

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Yes, it's been legal nationwide since 2004.
If it is, is it regulated in any way? Yes - brothels require a licence to operate legally, and prostitutes must undergo medical examinations once a year.
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? N/A
What is the government's stance on the issue? The government has, for the past few decades, focused on protecting sex workers while still allowing for personal freedom; however, the current administration has expressed support for recriminalisation.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? People are generally tolerant of prostitution, but there is still a strong stigma against purchasing their services.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? Civil rights groups and left-wing parties such as the Social Democrats and the Greens are generally supportive of sex work, as are some sectors of the business community, such as owners of bars and clubs.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? The Church of Danavaria officially opposes both the sale and purchase of sex, and many supporters of the Democratic Conservatives are in favour of banning the practice.
Is it important to the economy in anyway? Not particularly, although Fralsmund's red light district has become quite a major tourist attraction in recent years.
Anything Else? No.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?
Yes, but only in the city of Chu, where it is a dominant industry. The United Guild of Madams is one of the most powerful political forces in the city and has been since its founding.

If it is, is it regulated in any way?
Prostitution is regulated by the United Guild of Madams, who see to the health, protection, and overall welfare of their employees.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?
In cities where it is not legal, it is treated as a misdemeanor. Punishments vary by city but are in no way severe, usually a mild fine or community service.

What is the government's stance on the issue?
Considering that the United Guild of Madams is one of the most influential lobbying groups in the country, it is a protected tax base.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?
The United Guild of Madams is instrumental in its support and promotion.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
The occasional ignored fringe religious group.

Is it important to the economy in anyway?

Anything Else?
It is bad for one's health to interfere in the business of the Madams of Chu

Prostitution in the New Britannian State

Postby Britannia Maior » Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:52 pm

Is prostitution legal in your nation?
Prostitution is legal albeit strongly regulated in the New Britannian State. Non-licensed or freelance prostitution is illegal, though the latter may be considered "self-employed" if they follow prostitution standards.
If it is, is it regulated in any way?
Yes. Individuals may only work as prostitutes under the employment of licensed brothels held to high standards of health and safety, and in compliance with worker’s rights and identification laws. Migrants without a work visa may not work for brothels, neither may underaged persons, the mentally challenged or those infected with STDs. Freelance prostitutes are able to work on their own provided they abide by the same standards of health and safety. Prostitutes, employed or self-employed, must visit a medical professional every fortnight for medical checks and screening for any STDs. Both brothels and self-employed prostitutes must submit average earnings like any other business or self-employed individual. Brothels are also required to keep logs of customers and employees to ensure none are being taken advantage of or spreading infections. Self-employed prostitutes must do the same.
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?
Brothels that do not abide by regulations and guidelines are shut down and the establishment investigated. Self-employed prostitutes who do not maintain standards are put on probation and enrolled into rehabilitation, as are formerly employed prostitutes.
What is the government's stance on the issue?
The government maintains silence on prostitution, only speaking of it in legal terms and on occasion in regards to personal freedoms or market freedoms.
What are your citizens‘s thoughts on the issue?
The majority of citizens keep tight lipped about it, some openly disagreeing with its legal status whilst others are open and proud prostitutes. Some individuals in the traditional upper class have begun taking up the title or profession of hetairai, highly educated and sophisticated prostitutes who also serve as friendly companions, philosophers and cultural icons. The emerging romanticism of Ancient Rome and Greece has potentially aided the "sophistication" of the world’s oldest profession. Amongst the middle and lower classes there’s varying degrees of opposition and support, with support stemming mostly from the educated urban population and opposition from rural, religious and conservative individuals.
Are there any major groups (religions, businesses, political parties, ect) that support it?
Many pagan, new age, liberal Christian and irreligious groups and organisations support the legal status of prostitution. There is also support from many feminist groups. The growing community of Greco-Roman admirers, imitators and Greco-Romance pagans are largely supportive of prostitution so long it remains sensibly on the sidelines and kept professional. Despite this the most vocal or visible of its supporters paint it as a highly classed, sophisticated profession as a whole and have been pushing for laws to mandate that prostitutes become more hetaira than pornai, which some interpret as a subtle attack on the lower class and its perceived thuggishness.
Are there any major groups (religions, businesses, political parties, ect) that do not support it?
The majority of Abrahamists (Christians, Muslims, Jews) oppose the legal status of prostitution, considering it sinful and a stain upon the nation. There is a notable amount of opposition from some feminist and international groups, believing that prostitution endangers and objectifies women.
Is it important to the economy in any way?
Prostitution is not an integral sector of the Britannian economy, though the country is becoming increasingly known for sex tourism. HM Government has responded to the influx of sex tourists by placing signs, giving out pamphlets and releasing audio-video advisories aimed at foreigners from America, Asia and the Middle East, giving information on the law and expected conduct when engaging with legal prostitution.
Anything else?
Despite the government’s best efforts there remains an issue with illegal brothels and prostitution, almost always involving young foreign women trafficked into the country and held captive by criminals for use as money making schemes. The police have intensified efforts in cracking down on illegal prostitution in recent years.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Hell yes. Legal and considered a respectable and lucrative profession at that. As a tourist guide from the early 20th century put it "In Purpelia you'll find as many brothels as you will inns."
If it is, is it regulated in any way? Of course. Sex workers are regulated by the regular work laws as either self employed or employees of an institution. And there are additional special laws like those involving health benefits/requirements. And of course they have one of the strongest unions in Purpelia.
What is the government's stance on the issue? Sex is good. Sex is a sacred act that makes Ymir happy. Sex is a fun thing that keeps the people happy. And a happy commoner is one that won't revolt.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? 1 in 3 Purpelians has at some point in their life had sex for money and 1 in 5 has done it on a casual basis more than once. These statistics speak for them self.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? All of the population really.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? Nobody we care about.
Is it important to the economy in anyway? Well it is a large and prosperous industry that gives us taxes. But no, not in particular beyond that. After all, the actual number of them isn't that high.
Anything Else? Purpelians in general consider prostitution to be just another job. So much so that it's common to have people do it when ever they need a quick buck. Especially young people. Especially those you foreigners would consider children. Apparently there is a newer ending stream of gullible foreign tourists with cash to burn that our children can rip off for 5 minutes of work.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Eigenland does not attribute importance to the concept of legality.
If it is, is it regulated in any way? Eigenland does not believe in regulating the lives of its constituents in any way, shape, or form beyond providing them a place where they can fulfill their desires.
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? See above.
What is the government's stance on the issue? There is no government.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? Each member of Eigenländisch society holds an idiosyncratic stance on every issue found in society, and thus, there can be no consensus; nor is one desired.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? There are no true major groups in the first place.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? See above.
Is it important to the economy in anyway? The individualistic nature of Eigenländisch economy does not permit establishing such criteria.
Anything Else? Spooks begone!

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Yes.

If it is, is it regulated in any way? Not directly. But general legislation affects prostitution. Or brothels and another places were prostitution is legal are affected by laws: on legal immigration, health legislation, advertising, working conditions, Age of consent. Also many city halls prohibit the prostitution outside of brothels, parlours and houses and request the registration (for tax and NHS) of escorts.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? In some places prostitution is restricted and use street prostitution could mean for the customer and the prostitute to be fined. Also illegal brothels in apartments blocks can be closed by police.

What is the government's stance on the issue? Depending on Government's ideology.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?
It's a common and popular vice. If you cross the northern border you will find 4 brothels before you get to the first town.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? Yes the prostitutes unions and brothel owners syndicate. Liberal party.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
The Church, conservative parties, feminist groups, alt left.

Is it important to the economy in anyway? irrelevant to the workforce and GDP.

Anything Else?
