What part are you failing to grasp?
The part where you said a clip is cartridges.
Cartridges are cartridges.
Clips are clips.
Clips are not cartridges.
It's genuinely confusing, especially to someone who might not know the difference.
It's a common mistake for the uninformed to confuse clips and stripper-clips, though, so I guess it's understandable.

For want of real weapons, they lost the war.

That's kind of a silly semantic argument.

Would it be plausible to use gene therapy to increase resistance to biological, chemical and radiological weapons, as well as to reduce the chances of a soldier developing PTSD in the near future (2030-2040)?
The 7.92x33mm has only 1.4 grains less of capacity, for the record, and maximum ogive length is only 1mm shorter. I reckon they could be made equal out to combat ranges.
Im not saying they wouldn't be SIMILAR, but 7.62x39 would still be out-preforming it.
As for gene therapy...Thats not my area of expertise but I suppose, in theory, you could do it to resist C/B, bur not so much the R and N of CBRN. Biological immunity and Chemical immunity are one thing, where exposure to small doses (Vaccines and the same way people become immune to, say, snake poisons) would work in small amounts, but doing things like becoming immune to Radioactive materials and nuclear exposure are pretty difficult: Cell biology and whatnot cant rightly be changed based on what we have now, and as such it isn't fair for me to say what might be possible 20-30 years down the road. I just deal with trauma

Spirit of Hope wrote:Puzikas wrote:
Correct me if I'm wrong but has the process of manufacturing Damascus Steel only recently been re-discovered (at least, to be done enmass), and fount to contain some sort of carbon-nanotube handwavery?
Damascus Steel gets complicated fast, the leading theory is that what really made damascus steel good was the ores they were using, which were mined from an areanear Damascus and really only available to the smiths in that areain India and exported to Damascus. Out side of that we've been able to make stuff that superficially looks like Damascus Steel, and is, for the most part, way better than what they would have been able to do back then.
But yes the real deal Damascus Steel did have both carbon nanotubes (tiny little bits) and crystallization (think semi-dimonds) in the blade. That part we will probably never really recreate because it required a specific material input, and since the area has been mined out we can't recreate it.
Black Hand wrote:From what I can tell duplex doubles projectiles but doesn't quite halve effectiveness.... So it is better. But you lose accuracy, and lethality, but with the lethality argument you are putting out twice as many rounds so you have an advantage in chances of actually hitting your target..... logic is strange, and I'm still not issuing them..... I'll just give my HMG and Rotary guns the ability to feed shotshells
Spirit of Hope wrote:Black Hand wrote:Damascus steel isn't from Damascus, it's from India/Pakistan that region.
You are correct, however the problem still stands that we can't recreate it due to a lack of understanding of the minerals used to make it. Plus not having clear records on the manufacturing process.

Ulfr-Reich wrote:Armor piercing sword bayonets eh? Hmmmmmmm...................................... well, dash it all, I've got an idea.
Alright, science has proven Damascus steel to essentially have trillions of micrscopic (or just invisible to the naked eye) serrations, shredding plate maille and alloyed armors (heavy-weave and gauge chain maille was no exception). Well, then take into effect the WW1 era trench spike and blend it with damascus manufacture with a mono-filament tubes of a micro-carbon element of some form mixed with the damascus steel itself allows for a form of absolutely skull numbing levels of plating popping doom. Another good example, check out the bodkin arrows utilized at the battle of Agincourt, those french knights were pulped by high velocity carbon steel wedges.
Blend a wedge with the "multiple edges" styling of those spike/plug bayonets very-clearly emulating their trench spike forefathers, but with the sturdy-ruggedness of a bodkin and rock an industrialized damascus.................eh, yer' scifi military can afford it, right?
