Well it'd be less than the .30-06, no? And from what I understand .30-06 is still rather popular.

Yes. That's why it's inside the bullet.

It isn't during manufacturing or in a close-quarters firefight.

Well the 7.7x58 isn't deeply ingrained into popular culture like .30-06 was.
From what I understand, 7.7x58 was replaced by Japan with the .30-06, than 7.62x51, then 5.56x45. I'm sure that if Japan had held onto it and other countries had adopted it as well, we'd still see it around today.

So who's gonna invent a mass-issue ricin vaccine and lots of antidote?

Probably.
So, back to my question. Wouldn't it theoretically perform better than 7.62x51 due to increased case capacity?

Yeah. You'd put in some basic data like diameter, length, and individual lengths/diameters of different parts and it'd show you what it'd be shaped like, and then it would give you a ballistic/drag coefficient across varying velocities, and then you'd put in your intended velocity and it'd give you velocities at certain ranges.
It'd also give you the exact bullet weight for the shape and size of your bullet.

Extremely useful. But not it'e "been superseded".

I'm on "Dancing Queen" now, myself.

Also, does anyone know why I've suddenly had the urge to build a clone of the US Army's SDM-R? I don't even know how it be, but it do. Cheaper than looking at M14 EBR-RI, I suppose, also while not adding a new caliber to my checklist. Anyway, while we're on the topic of it, does anyone use purpose-built DMRs to any degree, or are most of us just throwing a scope on our standard rifles, more or less? I know I've got a notGewehr 41 set up like an M14 EBR-RI (to a degree), but pretty much everything else is just an AK with a scope in 7.92x57mm IS. Not sure if I should go ahead and make a 7.62x39mm DMR or not considering the cartridge's effective range (inb4Tabuk).
