so people, remember all that trouble with CTA ammo yesterday? well, it was needed so i could make this:
Image
this IS meant to be a dumbfutur gun. it is made for a contest in DeviantArt, where you need to make a could-be weapon for a video game. i chose Battlefield 2142.
so yeah, i know it is just stupid and plain silly, but it is not exactly meant to be perfectly feasible; and it won't be adopted by my nation after all.

it will be called the FAL-345 "Raposa" (Fox). FAL stands for Fuzil Automático Leve, or Light Automatic Rifle. i chose the nickname "Fox" because it is meant to be a compact, agile and "smart" gun. as such, it features a "smart scope" (identifies hostile targets, outline them in red, and automatically compensates the reticle for distance and wind), with an integrated ammo counter. its magazine is a mix of the G-11 mag and the FN P90 magazine. it is freakingly long and accomodates 65 rounds; these are "rimmed" (actually, rimless as the rim is rebated to base diameter) CTA rounds. the small angled front is meant to provide headspacing. the rounds are 5mm rounds; there is a "ballistic" version with a steel core and an air cavity, and an "AP" round, made of tungsten carbide.
rounds are ejected downwards, a la P-90, hence there is no visible ejection port on the side. the gas piston/tubes are loacted on both sides of the barrel and are of short-stroke system.
that big button under the sights is the magazine release button. it is there on both sides and all controls in the gun are located on both sides and, therefore, fully ambidextrous.

any suggestions, in this case mainly in the part of the looks? again, it is meant to be a dumbfutur, could-be video-game gun.

EDIT: crap, top page. well, i posted that lineart so i guess that's enough gunporn, right? if anyone knows anything related to 247, tell me and i'll post it.

Neat. I like how you did the magazine. I would think it a bit awkward to reload though. It could stand some more detailing. As is, it looks a little boring.

yeah it would. however, remember, it is meant for video games, and in video games you can reload a bullpup as easily and fast as a "traditional" rifle :P
only game i've ever seen where reloading a bullpup takes more time is Battlefield 2. i absolutely loved that L85 with the SUSAT sights, but that took a bit longer to reload. in the animation, you could also see the character kinda "missed" the magwell on the first try, having to relocate the magazine a bit. he also unshouldered the rifle to reload IIRC.

The Archangel Conglomerate wrote: It could stand some more detailing. As is, it looks a little boring.

what kind of detailing? i noticed it, but couldn't find a way to solve it. only thing i did was that black stripe.
might go and add some sort of texture for the grip.

Aqizithiuda wrote:I think the magazine is much too long, in my personal opinion.

yeah, it is indeed. the purpose of it was just to have dozens of rounds so it could fire rounds with a frigginly high rate of fire without emptying the mag in a second. in BF2142, the world is practically freezing, so heat build-up wouldn't be too much of a problem; actually, guns feature heating systems to keep them from freezing  it's kinda weird.

it'd be a pain to carry and reload though, so yeah, i've got to agree with you on that.

a) Is that an ejection port under the sight?
b) Where I you, I would consider further borrowing from the G11, and have the rounds pointing downward (or upward), thus giving the magazine a slimmer profile and allowing you to fit an additional mag or two to help facilitate faster reloading.

2) That would complicate the design.

Theoretically yes, but I think a rifle barrel would be too heavy to work very similarly to a glock. Something re imagined Fedorov-esque might work better.

Also, much Fordi awesomeness a few pages back.

Yes, it needs more detail, otherwise it's kickass. Maybe a sword-bayonet, longer-barrel and some form of "tall" stacked magazine instead of that little thin bastard? (mind upping the caliber to CTA'd .460 Rowland?)

sorry Ulfr, unfortunately this isn't fancy high-caliber badass weaponry. it is a dumb, futur, hi-speed low-drag, could-be battlefield 2142 gun.
when i finish this set of dumbfutur guns for a DeviantArt contest, i shall return to making badass weapons of much Dakka.

The Infantry of the Transmarian National People's Army are typically people who have a background in hunting, or gained a love of soldiering during their time spent in a conscript Militia regiment. Their tactics and equipment are geared towards national defence and guerilla warfare.

The main service rifle of the TNPA is the SG-542, chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, and each fire team has at least one person with some scope'n'bipod action goin' on instead of having a totally different rifle serve as a DMR.

The TNPA's typical field uniform involves a long-sleeved jacket, a short-sleeved undershirt, SMERSH chest rigs, pants, spandex undershorts, hiking boots, boonie hats and thin balaclavas, with heavier layers issued for winter and all clothing made out of ASAT camouflage fabric. ASAT camouflage is designed to reflect the environment around it, thusly it is All Season All Terrain. As you can see in this photo, the camouflage appears to be the same colour as the cliff face. In this photo, it appears to be green like the foliage behind him. The pattern itself looks like this. Soldiers are not issued with body armour, and are rarely equipped with helmets.

An oddity in the TNPA is the commonality of shotguns; one man in each fire team is issued the Baikal MP-155 semi-automatic shotgun. The effectiveness of shotguns when supported by rifle and machine gun fire is often touted by TNPA shotgunners.

Soldiers of the TNPA are trained in hunting, trapping, fishing and foraging, and are thusly capable of surviving in the Transmarian wilderness almost indefinitely. They're taught to employ ambush tactics, and create a variety of traps to kill, injure or demoralize any invasion force.

Yeah... I kinda spaced there. All things considered, it seems a fairly reasonable place for a magazine release, given the location of the magazine well.

B) USBN can't into german-swiss watchmaking/wizardry/engineering. not even in could-be video-game designs.

Nor can AW.

I don't think it'd do much good, from a design perspective. You really wouldn't be able to see it unless you hold the rifle at an angle.

What about RailzTM, or sling loops, or retaining pins, or company logos and the like?

I'm just glad Uelvan disregards anything related to quality when it comes to infantry, in favor of maximizing our military expenses on mass producing missiles and WMDs. Our troops literally are a gigantic masses of people who are trained at sweeping bombed out ruins for any survivors and finding bomb shelters.

"look at that missile launching base. wouldn't it be sad if something happened to that control center?"
if you don't have a capable army to defend those bases, any well-trained spec ops group could get in and disable the whole crap, including communication systems, to prevent it from alerting other bases. at the same time, other similar attacks occur in other bases, rendering your WMD capabilities useless.
good luck trying to win a war if this happens. i guess there is general consensus that infantry is perhaps the most important part of a military; even a dumbass like me knows it.
