nice, and that's a soft point. imagine what a steel cored round would do. All of my Military issued rounds are such, it's not much more expensive than lead, and all the AP advantages are absurd.

This, this makes me smile. Oh, and matey, the new Ulfran service cartridge via the massive equipment retconning, 13.5x110mm. Slightly akin' to an AA-Mg or an HMG munition, right?

During the following failure of the Conscript Rifle the Gretin Service has quickly developed a new rifle with a bayonet. This was heavily issued to conscripts and infantry.

The gretin awaits results.

Not liking the bayonet. You should avoid that thing in the future, it's next to useless, especially in CQC where a bullet to the face is more effective than a fleshwound.

Sounds about right, it seems like a middle ground between 14.5X114 and 12.7X108.
I issue 30X120 HMG's but that's s different story. It just "happens" to share the exact dimensions shotgun/Light grenade Cartridge I have. and the rounds are all interchangeable (the shotgun is built to handle the pressures of the HMG round) and the HMg can become a GMG with ease. and when the time comes can be loaded with shotshells and unleashed upon the world.

1. he will answer to Ulfr, and Ulfr-Reich, never seen him answer to reich..
2. I'm somewhat convinced ulfr is currently drunk (just a hunch, and it's happened before)
3. Ulfr is a jarlist, if you want an explanation as to what the fuck that actually means ask him, Reich just means empire/kingdom/wealthy in German. so it's somewhat benign. it's the phrase thirdReich that's associated with the Nation socialism movement of Germany.

4. his alt nation is Khornatenreich whichis a nazi empire that worships Khorne the god of chaos from 40K.

Really? Dude, check out my alt Khornatenreich, it's my parody of the sillyness and bumblefuck stupidity inherent with nazis. Plus, a direct stab at Warhammer 40k's over-the-top crazy.

The Ulfrans follow a somewhat heightened exaggeration of Jarlism, which is a semi-monarchistic variation of Scandinavian democratic socialism. No facism in the least, no way, no how.

The Bureau of Weapon Research has developed a M16-type rifle modifying the internals and the other things to hope success. The difference between the AB-13 and the M16 is M4A1-type action, M4A1-type handguard , aftermarket magazine , aftermarket compensator , shortened m16-type stock , handguard rails , This is not gonna go mass-production. Since this is expensive. This will be only issued during a heavy massive conflict.

Aqizithiuda wrote:I can't say that I've heard of crucible steel having that particular property. So far as I can remember, crucible steel's main advantage was the harder bands of semi-ceramic steel mixed in with the bands of softer steel.

I can also say, with much more certainty, that the French knights were not overly affected by the English arrows because the bodkin points were typically softer, lower quality steel without a temper and the combination of plate, mail and padded armour that the French wore at that point in time was more than sufficient to stop the vast majority of arrows. The mud probably killed more men than the arrows, and the archers almost certainly killed more men in close quarter combat than with their bows.

Really now, well, last time I went to an SCA gathering (middle-kingdom or sommat), someone had a longbow and a chestplate made to historical spec. It worked just fine n' dandy, plus, said vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KCE40J93m5c offers a neat example of the point. Yer' right on the range though in regard to the arrows though; I'd like to state that damascus is a fickle bitch, but what it could do to armored targets was fucking crazy, all those layers of mixed and forge welded metals did some particularly heavy damage on the poor schmuck in the suit, it'd probably work just like this, but scaled up heavily due to the change in gear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=UpOFS09rLIY#t=149; just with a heavy thrust due to the bayonet bit. A blending of concepts like that could benefit Arch's troops somewhat.

It's hard to get any real meaning from that video, since we don't know what kinds of bodkins (long or short?) they were using, or if the bodkins were tempered (which they weren't, historically speaking) or even how thick the breastplate is/what kind of steel it was made from. It's also worth noting that many of the French knights would have been wearing a plate and mail combination, which would allow the plate to absorb most of the arrow's energy, allowing the mail and arming jacket/gambeson to stop the arrow completely.

Ulfr-Reich wrote:
Aqizithiuda wrote:This is obviously going to be a discussion that I'll need sources from, so I'll refrain from it until I get home, but I do have one pretty vital question: are you talking about Damascus steel or "Damascus" steel. One's a hard to reproduce crucible steel that most likely had some critical cooling elements, while the other is just ordinary pattern welded steel.

The stupidly complicated "damascus". Which, well, in Arch's advanced-futuretech setting, he could get away with using/manufacturing it.

Edit: The Damascus shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBAST6i4gdc

And here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALDaLsD7aTY

Some of that aforementioned crucible steel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=EVuB_0hxE3c

Right, so I've found anarticle that looks at the properties of modern pattern welded steel. In general, it's no better than any other modern steel. This article suggests why this might be, while the first article mentions that pattern welded gun barrels are, if anything, inferior to normal gun barrels. For those interested, this article looks at the composition of Damascus/wootz steel and goes into some of the research on them a little.

Totally off topic, but spiral-weld damascus gun barrel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=K7eacS2oDcs

It sure is. Modern research has even suggested that cementite nanowires and carbon nanotubes may have been partially responsible for the combined sharpness and toughness of the blades. Sadly, it looks like the specific ore deposit was depleted, so it fell out of favour. It could, of course, easily be replicated by modern techniques (maybe not so easily re: nanowires etc) and even exceeded, with better control over composition and homogenisation, etc.
