I don't think M16 reveivers can be stamped, and if it's supposed to be cheap, ditch the wooden furniture and aftermarket magazine.

So then why have a rifle issued only to new recruits? It will only drive up costs and put more strain on logistics with no advantage.

What you want is the AR-18 or, better yet, the T2 Mk5 (Forgotten Weapons has a great video on it). You'll need to increase weight as well, since wood is heavier than plastics and the AR-18 only managed to get down to just over 3kg.

I just had a revelation today, lol. For the everymanaHUD fad, wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and more effective to just have TV goggles and one or more cameras to provide peripheral vision? Almost all technologies commercially used for see-through displays have various disadvantages over traditional full field of view displays, such as being able to display only one or a few colors, limited projection size, bad contrast/brightness, etc.

Classic displays using proven technologies such as LCD/LED will not have these problems. Additionally, they could automatically adjust things such as brightness in order to facilitate low light vision or to alleviate the effects of flashbangs, explosions, etc. Unlike the google glass-like products, you could project images of any size at any location on the soldier's field of view, with excellent resolution, brightness, contrast, and so on.

I'd hate to use one though, it would be uncomfrotale and hard to adjust to, and would irritate my eyes

Not liking the bayonet. You should avoid that thing in the future, it's next to useless, especially in CQC where a bullet to the face is more effective than a fleshwound.

True. Still, what use is it if you're in a firefight? Stab the air!

@Fordorsia
Actually, yes, I have gotten stabbed. I got stabbed by a pair of scissors, third grade, right above my collar bone. Quite painful, still have a scar.

@Bez
Hell yesh.

I don't know, what use is a five-ten piece of stabby metal on the end of your rifle when, having crawled around to outflank a machine gun nest which is pinning down your men, having set up a fire support group and thrown a grenade in it, then having sprinted the last few meters into the position, and there is someone right ahead of you.

Or, alternatively, the sheer fact that there's a stabby thing on your rifle has been known to scare people shitless and help with your own morale - mostly because you're carrying a gun-spear, not a gun.

Ah, so not by a full-sized man who wants to kill you because you killed some of his mates, who has sprinted at you, who has little to no reason to leave you alive (esp. as the quicker he kills you, the quicker he can move on and deal with other threats - the more time he wastes on you, the more time the position spends 'not clear') and who has shoved the aforementioned five to ten inches of steel into your chest, possibly repeatedly, while filled with adrenaline and probably blood lust and fear in equal measure?

I will (shock, horror!) admit that there is such a thing as 'too much bayonet', but in NS the majority of the reason that happens is rule of cool, and this is demonstrated by Ford's HeresyRifle (Yes, it was me who suggested the Baker Rifle Sword Bayonet).

However, there is, surprisingly, a reason that most-to-all modern militaries issue bayonets as standard. And chances are, if they're not issuing it it's because :ReallyPoorCountry:

Actually, I've been stabbed (some dumb cunt had ill intentions on my way home from an auction), shot (dipshit mugger in Chicago, hit the meat, not the femoral, I was lucky, he wasn't), and had the end result of a drunken hunter with a crossbow being out pre-season.............Fucking low-power bolt through the shoulder.

Not to mention a welding accident.........................and being cut three-quarters of the way through the tendon on my left thumb (the first knuckle before the nail). Not to mention countless other injuries, some for stupid reasons, others from a need for getting through a particularly less-than-pleasant altercation due to being in a less than friendly environment if ye' get my meanin'.
