Now that I look at it, the grip and trigger/trigger guard of the G11 PDW really reminds of the G36.

G11 PDW is a pistol that fires caseless rounds.

I forgot about that but it looks lolhuge, and unwieldly, besides, if its mechanosm is similar to that of the G11, it is needlesly complex.
I'm talking specifically about square PCT rounds, for more efficent energy storage, in single stack CCWs.

Why are you doing this to me? It wouldn't make nerves in your skin disappear. The uppermost layer of the skin is nervless, if it gets to the dermis, you'll feel the cut, if it does not, you don't, you only feel the knife touching you. This works so with normal skin and would work like that with all sorts of GM skin, unless you modify people specifically to have no nerves in the skin.

But how big is it? I suppose more MP7 like, than CCW like. Plus I imagine this as a very near future thingy, caseless is not going to gain a foothold very soon, yet polymer cases are there, they only need to be telescoped and squared for space efficient CCW rounds.

Another question, why haven't anyone thought about giving a caseless round two electrically fired primers? One a the front and one at the back, this would mean adjustable shot energy as front ignition is quite much more efficent than back ignition as demonstrated by the Prussian needle rifle.
Is there some inherent fault to this approach, with modern propellants.
Besides the dificulty of ignition trough the chamber walls, without making the thing leak.

It shouldn't be any bigger than the Deagle.

Plus this weapon was gtg back in the 80s, you'd be totes fine now. I myself use a caseless rifle as a main service rifle, and a caseless bolt action rifle as an AMR.

Well Deeagle is far from a CCW, I stiil would need a draft of such a mechanism to claim a caseless concealed carry pistol in this year or the next and IRL, there are still problems with caseless rounds.Fragillity and corrosiveness of the ammunition would affect a CCW, cook off and such can probably be ignored in case of a small capacity semi-auto.

Cockoff was solved in the later prototypes of the G11's ammunition, and according to someone here (if it was you plz say so, I'm bad at remembering this sort of thing) said that it's good enough to be used simply in a belt fed machine gun.
Also I've read personal accounts of (not sure of the truth behind this) people saying that they left magazines in the grass for two days and then fired them without issue.

I didn't know about the Voere pistol. Do you know anything about it other than it existed?

@ Aralon: Crookfur's right. Round cartridges are the strongest, but triangular and rectangular PCTA rounds have been used before. And don't sweat it with the tough skin thing, I understand what you mean by it and how you'd theoretically apply it. I actually considered it for the super soldier project I've been doing in bits and pieces in my spare time, but eventually ruled it out because I didn't want to get that far in the future.

Square PCTA probably won't offer much of an advantage, because you'll probably loose more volume trying to fix the weakness created by the geometry thanyou'd gain by going square, and the chamber of the gun is going to be more difficult to make as a result (unless you go lockless).

Forward ignition isn't such a good idea with telescoped cartridges, either, since you need the bullet to be in the barrel before most of the main charge ignites. You'd need that dual ignition idea, which would make for a more complex weapon, even if it was mechanical as opposed to electric.

Cook off isn't a major problem if you use a open bolt weapon, and caseless ammunition can be made reasonably durable with the right design. I've not heard about corosion, though.

For want of heavy equipment the platoons FOs could direct no HMGs.

For want of HMGs, the Archians had to rely on shitty fucking microcalibers.

For want of real weapons, they lost the war.
