Next on the list, also prime for special forces use, on those missions that require a concealable, highly accurate rifle, as either space or "legitimacy" is an issue. It may not be an anti-material rifle, but it'll get the job done.

You're not, you're using 40mm Buckshot because 40mm grenades in room clearance is silly.

I've said this at least a dozen times in the past ten minutes.

Beano, you have to aim a shotgun as a rifle when clearing a room. Even if you're using a pump action grenade launcher, you will still have to be:

A: Fast as shit at firing and working the action.
B: Accurate as shit.
C: Stupid.

You will be dead before you kill 2 people inside the room. If used right, a grenade will explode before anyone inside the room can do anything about it.

Or do you. Grenade launcher barrels, standalone (and even moreso) UBGLs are a lot shorter than most conventional shotguns, which equals bigger spread. Also you have to remember this is not a 12 GA shell you are firing,it is close to 1 gauge. So basically a fuck-huge amount of lead being spewed with a big ass spread. Unless your targets are armored, I doubt you can make an argument that they'd stand a chance and live to shoot back.

Nope. Many videos show the spread is just as tight as on an actual shotgun.

I'm not talking about if someone will live when shot by one. I'm saying that you will have to be really accurate with at and be able to work it quickly to clear a room of enemies. Chances are, you will die, because once you shoot one guy, you will have hardly any time to pump the grenade launcher and kill the others.

If you're using a UBGL on most conventionally-patterned rifles, then in a building you'll have your finger on the rifle trigger.
If you have no rifle because you're using a standalone launcher, you should probably have a handgun. You certainly shouldn't be taking point and should leave that responsibility to the rest of the fireteam and/or section.

Which is why I issue a light GL/shotgun. Need close range? empty out all your Grenades and load up buck, slugs, or even APDS or Super XREP (a 4" 3 gauge shotgun would be able to pack one helluva zap in an XREP style round.) for other situations. you have one helluva versatile weapon with no diadvatnage over a modern remington 870 or mossberg 500. speaking of which if I were to choose a shotgun to base this thing off of what should I choose? Ithaca 37, mossy 500, remington 870, or KSG with a tube switching mag follower, and better QC?

That really sounds hard to believe. Such short barrel + no choke = similar spread to shotguns? Hmm. I'll investigate

Also, I see your point. However, with an MGL, I think it "cycles" ( I don't know the proper term ) fast enough for follow up aimed shots. Yet, I'm thinking recoil could be a huge problem if you expect to come close to shotgun velocities with "full" shells ( actual 1 gauge by 2 inch <<approximately>> loads not a 12 GA's worth and then just empty space ).
