As well as using . for , they also use , for ., for example "1.333.444,55", written by someone in Germany, would read "1,333,444.55" to someone from a British-derived measurements system, though its quite ordinary on the continent. One of them maybe has historical precedent, kind of like how driving on the left is the natural thing to do but the difference is basically none at all.

Even though I've always used "." for numbers like 1.000, 1.000.000, etc.
