Overview

The Global Broadcasting Company is a Thedosian public service broadcasting statutory organization. Its main responsibility is to provide its viewers -- those within its primary broadcasting area of the United Teyrnirs and its colonies, as well as any foreign countries in which it operates -- with accurate information on varying news around the world. It is the largest media employer in Thedosia, with approximately 64,000 staff. It is headquartered on 3915 Griffin Street in Kirkwall and has major operation centers in Minrathous, Starkhaven, Amaranthine, Nevarra, Val Royeaux, Antiva City, and Bastion, with several other smaller production centers across the United Teyrnirs.

The GBC is an autonomous public service broadcaster that operates under a Charter and a Licence and Agreement from the Ministry of the Interior. Its funding comes primarily from the deals it has with a series of service providers across the territories in which it provides its services, both within the United Thedosian Teyrnirs and its overseas operations. Apart from that, it also receives funding from a number of investors worldwide.

Operating Countries

Currently, the Global Broadcasting Company operates in hundreds of nations due to its connection to the Universal Broadcasting Union, an international organization designed to bring together the broadcasting companies of the world to increase global cooperation between broadcasters of both television and radio. With a current roster of just over three hundred different corporations and connection to those countries, the GBC expands itself to a variety of different nations and promotes its own news in foreign territories.

Currently, the Global Broadcasting Company is accepting applications to expand to new territories that are not currently covered by GBC services. For more information, please contact us at gbc.information@gbc.the

Situation Not Better
Andraste Defence Centre Says Olmatur Still Exorbitantly Dangerous
Article written by Jane C. Ardoin (@jc_ardoin)

Image
A spokesperson for the Defence Ministry stated today that “Olmatur is still exorbitantly dangerous.” Picture taken by Amelia Pearce

Olmatur – Ever since 2031, Olmatur has been the centre of attention for military fanatics across the Kingdom and its allies. After the nuclear bombing of Saint Antoine’s Little Macaron, the Royal Thedosian military has been on an extremely high alert and fighting terrorism abroad, whose political and military centre is clearly Olmatur and its Olmica leadership.

But how safe is Olmatur itself? It’s been six years since the war started, and dozens of news companies and theorists claim that the Kingdom has already cleared Olmatur of its Olmican parasites. The “best” of the crystal-ball observers in the world claim that the Kingdom could leave by next year, explaining that the “Maker will guide the King to successfully bring our servicemen-and-women back home.”

But the Maker is not yet done, it seems.

The Andraste Defence Centre – home to the Royal Defence Ministry and one of the most secretive buildings in the entire Greater Kingdom – recently released a report on the conflict; a spokesperson for the Ministry, Mr Kyle Frost, explained that the “Royal Thedosian military’s best long-term observers calculate that the conflict will not be fully complete before 13:40 [2040] at minimum.”

This proves that the Maker’s best forces are not yet done in their conflict. Olmatur is still the centre of attention, and is likely to remain so for, at least, the end of the decade.

Later in the conference, the spokesperson agreed to take questions from reporters in the crowd. The GBC’s very own Ms Heath asked, “What are the estimated costs of the war, and how long would this war last?”

Mr. Frost replied, “Currently, our financiers tell us the total probable cost is currently sitting at around δ500 billion [US$880 billion]. As for how long the war could last, we estimate until around 13:41 [2041].”

This means that the Greater Kingdom could still technically be involved in the Olmaturan War for the next four years. Though the president of the OGA replied saying that the length of this war seemed implausible and likely far longer than what it is likely to actually take, the Andraste Centre refused to comment. The only associated comment is actually from Archduchess Veronica O. Stella, of the Duchy of Nevarra, who said, “The Greater Kingdom has waged war since our conception in the Ancient Ages [pre-800 CE]. We know what we’re doing and our calculations are solid and based on evidence, not what appears to be. The OGA’s assistance in the conflict is crucial to our overall success, but their calculations are off. The war will last past 13:40, easily.” After few more comments, she ended her conference with, “Maker Bless the Kingdom, and may He ensure that no more of our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, die in this perpetual conflict.”

There has been no further comment from the Olmaturan Government Alliance.

The Baws Man 35 likes 11 dislikes: Well, that fucking sucks. My brother is a serviceman in the Royal Army. He’s been deployed to Olmatur twice now, each tour for six months. He almost got killed once, so I’m not entirely thrilled about the Andraste Centre saying this is going to last so much longer. Maker preserve the Kingdom and have mercy on us.
Dragonman 17 likes 4 dislikes: @The Baws Man: Maker. I’m so sorry for you. I’m with you; I hope this war ends soon. The Kingdom certainly could do without.
The Baws Man 8 likes 1 dislike: @Dragonman: Thank you. Let’s just hope those stupid buggers at the Defence Centre get them out of here and done.
PFCRyan 164 likes 21 dislikes: As my username would imply, I’m a Private First Class, Royal Army, currently stationed in Olmatur. We were running a patrol through Jankahursk, now that it was attacked, when this was run. We were sitting in our Viper when we heard this over the radio. I can tell you, my team was nearly broken. The car behind us had to park on the side of the road and walk around, get some air.

Let’s just say us Army boys don’t like this. I know some good mates over here, and we’re stuck here for six months at a time. I even know one, Gunnery Sergeant Martin, who’s been deployed here since the war started; because he knows how dangerous it is, he keeps volunteering to keep one dude from coming over here, and even then, it will only last two more years before he reaches the limit and goes back home with the Medal of High Merit. This war needs to end now before they all die. Maker help us.
The Baws Man 48 likes 17 dislikes: @PFCRyan: I feel you, bro. Good luck over there, and good luck to the rest of your unit.

Royalty Marries
Royal Marriage Between Waltch Dominion and Greater Kingdom
Article written by Jessica Ghas (@jess_ghas)

Image
Starkhaven, the fourth-largest city in the country, and the city where Duke Sinclair works.

Thedas – An interesting event was announced today as Duke Andrew Sinclair of Starkhaven and Countess Mari Ingrid Rolvsson of Djursholm married in the Royal Chantry of Starkhaven. The event was announced in the early hours of the morning by the Starkhaven city government, with the wedding itself starting at around 11:30 a.m. Duke Sinclair has yet to make any more official announcements after having been driven away in a limousine with the countess.

A most important addition to this event was the presence of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Revan, and Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Mírdan. After the ceremony, he took several questions from a crowd of reporters in front of the Imperial Chantry. Our correspondent, William McClair, asked, “What does the Imperial Crown hope to achieve with this marriage?”

Emperor Revan replied, “In the modern day, the Crown doesn’t find ‘suitors’ for its royal members. Any marriages that occur within the royal families should be strictly for the purposes of actually wanting to be married. So what do we hope to achieve by this? A happier duke in Starkhaven.”

Imperial spokesperson Sir Jude Jennings of the Press Ministry later explained said, “Within four days, Duke Sinclair and Countess Rolvsson are going to be away from their work placements for two weeks. Exact details are confidential, but they’re to travel to various places, both in the Empire and the Dominion, before finally returning to their respective workplaces.”

When asked if there were hidden implications in this marriage, particularly the seeking of closer relations to the Waltch Dominion, Sir Jude replied, “The Crown doesn’t condone this kind of thing anymore. It’s completely possible that there be some impact, but that will be entirely the decision of Countess Rolvsson, and not us. Their relationship is entirely their business, and not some work of the government in order to grow relations with the Dominion.

Neither Duke Sinclair nor Countess Rolvsson are expected to make any announcements before their return.

royaldfm 21 likes 13 dislikes: Yay!!! I’d heard rumors since Starkhaven greeted Lady Rolvsson in Molioris in 13:34 that the Duke and Lady were together. Seems like they kept it very hush-hush until the last minute.
AMRG 9 likes 14 dislikes: @royaldfm: You’re so blinded by what the government constantly feeds you that you think the government’s spending of millions of taxpayer credits paying for these stupid royal marriages is a good idea! Down with the monarchy! Bury the Emperor! Destroy the Empire!
royaldfm 18 likes 4 dislikes: @AMRG: I’ve lived in Starkhaven since 13:05; I saw Duke Sinclair take power and become Duke of Starkhaven. I’ve been living here every step of the way, and have visited our overseas allies more times than I can count. Our Crown actually works with other governments. It doesn’t just take up money; what’s the difference between a regular old president or prime minister and our royalty in terms of purchasing things? It’s as if presidents can’t get married while in office!
TJHumphries 34 likes 11 dislikes: I approve of this. I like to see royal members happy. It means they’ll do their jobs better. Though, knowing how Duke Sinclair is, that’ll be hard to achieve.

Terror Strikes Albion!
Security Service Operators Fight in Brightwall
Article Written by Brooke Bartlett (@brooke_bartlett)

Image
Brightwall Park, where security agents fought terrorists for four hours

Brightwall -- A city built in 2:33, after Albion had become a colony of the Holy Empire and integrated into its territorial bounds, Brightwall has become renowned for its scholarships; the Royal Brightwall Academy is the center of learning across the entire colony, and is commended for its countless projects that allow its student body to readily integrate itself into the realm of professional workers in their respective fields.

However, today, it is a place of mourning. In Brightwall Park, a large, protected green zone near the Royal Brightwall Academy, terrorists detonated several bombs, destroying shops, stairs, fountains, and killing or maiming dozens. After the explosions, terrorists armed with standard B09s and body-armor arrived at the park and began shooting at survivors of the bombs. Just as they arrived, so did a platoon of security agents of the Imperial Guard, Security Service – better known as Military Intelligence Section Five, or MI5 – who engaged the terrorists and trapped them within the park.

For the next two-and-a-half hours, an entire battalion of security agents were called in to secure the park’s perimeter and seal in the terrorists. Reports from the front lines indicate that, though the terrorists were heavily outnumbered by the battalion of security agents, their safer positions and more defensible firing locations made an assault incredibly difficult.

However, eventually, the Security Service requested – and received – approval for an assault on Brightwall Park. The battalion began moving in, and engaged the terrorists for an hour-and-a-half before the park was fully secured.

MI5 estimates show that approximately 135 terrorists carried out this assault on Brightwall Park. Of them, 72 are confirmed dead. 63 surrendered and have been captured by MI5 – inside rumors seem to suggest that they were to be transferred to the care of the Thedosian Intelligence Service. Furthermore, approximately 31 civilians were killed and another 54 injured. 9 security agents were killed and 4 more were wounded in the assault.

“This attack on Brightwall Park is the latest insult to the Thedosian people,” Duke of Brightwall Liam Austin said, “and it shows that, though we may be engaging them in their lands and they may be staining their lands with their blood, they’re fully prepared to come to our lands and shed our blood on our soil. And we must be prepared to defend ourselves against them.”

Security Service executive Dame Stephanie Perkins later said, “This attack is a clear indication of just how drastic these terrorists are willing to be against the Thedosian people. Our allies have been keen on helping us maintain security in Olmatur, but we alone are responsible for our own security.”

However, leaks from the highest echelons of the government seem to imply that the events that occurred in Brightwall today were not to their fullest extent. Anonymous leaks to the GBC indicate that the attack itself was a secondary measure to a failed terrorist attack on Bowerstone, which was supposedly stopped by special operations agents of the Thedosian Intelligence Service. Though this remains only a rumor, many theorists claim this possibly included the use of a weapon of mass destruction on Imperial soil.

A spokesperson for the royal family explained that, “The Imperial family and the Supreme Chancellor have spoken with the agency executives of the TIS and the Security Service in order to review the sequence of events and prepare for future attacks such as this.” Archduchess Elita Bourque of Orlais also expressed her concern, and hoped that the events that occurred in Brightwall “are isolated, and don’t begin to occur on a regular basis.”

LGrecks 12 likes 3 dislikes: Bloody hell, this is crazy. Maker, we need to end this war in Olmatur and forget these terrorists even exist!
FHowards 39 likes 13 dislikes: @LGrecks: Honestly, even if we do end the war in Olmatur, we can expect terrorists to try and hit us. So instead of running from our commitments, I believe MI5 needs to get its act together and actually defend us.
LGrecks 21 likes 7 dislikes: @FHowards: True, but they would have less animosity towards us if we were not in their country, fighting them. So, perhaps we just need to do both.
FHowards 47 likes 16 dislikes: @LGrecks: That just sounds like a bad idea. Let them keep spawning in their territory whilst running back to our country and forgetting about what we have promised to our allies and our obligations? Rubbish. What we need is to just fucking kill them all.
PTretram 3 likes 27 dislikes: @FHowards: I do not think just killing more people will find a solution to the problem.
